Title: Miss or Mrs
Prompt: Chiclit[Artist: Willowwaves_art| Instagram]'Ah- ah!' Laughter. We all pretend, don't we?
I loved the way I pretended to like the young man opposite me. I pretended not to notice the dirty glances he passed at my fresh yellow-pawpaw thighs. Or the way he subtly brushed my hands. His chipped tooth couldn't be anymore unattractive.
Here I am again following the trail of mother's advice to search for a husband; maybe I could find one but surely it is not this guy. Ugh!! The ills of internet dating. Okay, I turned thirty-two last month, so what?
No one really matches up to me. Mother said I let my riches go into my head. They say men are afraid of successful women.
I feel it is envy.
Maybe that was the syndrome of the man opposite me. I sipped my drink, zoning out of his banter about his containers. This is the last time I would visit those awful dating sites, and probably the last time mother would visit me to fill my ears with the ills of late marriage or being an old spinster.
I drank more, anticipating my sleep back at home; there, I could meet the man of my dreams.
