The last week of summer

Hermione P.O.V

I woke up to my parents arguing. I groan and roll out of bed and head downstairs into the living room. They immediately spot me and stop arguing.

"What's going on." I look at them both confused before realizing that they both had a sad look on their faces.

"Well..." My dad started before looking at my mom not sure how to explain.

"Your father and I are getting a divorce as we don't love each other anymore and you will come with me to live in the North West of London so it'll be easier for when you go to Hogwarts."

My mother said the last part heading up the stairs leaving me and my dad in an awkward silence for a few minutes. When she came back downstairs my mom told me to go pack so that we could get going to the North West of London sooner. I nodded silently and the second I was out of earshot they started to talk about what was going to happen after they filed and signed the divorce papers.

The second I got up to my room I immediately burst into tears. My parents are getting a divorce and there's nothing I can do to change their minds. I hesitantly grab my suitcase from the corner of my room which still packed with all the stuff I wore from when we went to France at the start of the summer. I start taking them all out and put them onto my bed while my eyes are still streaming with tears. Suddenly I hear a tapping noise on my window and turn around to see Hedwig and Pigwidgeon holding a letter each. I open the window and take the letters and set them down on the windowsill.

" Wait here I'll get you both a treat." I tell them as I go into one of my drawers and grab two treats. I walk back over to the window and give them both a treat before taking one of the letters. It's from Harry. I started reading:

September 15th 1996

Dear Hermione,

How has your summer been because we haven't heard from you at all. We've sent you multiple letters and you haven't replied so we don't know if you are just busy or have a lot going on. The Weasley's took me to Egypt for the summer it was so cool. I wish you were able to come. Ron brought his rat called Scrabbers which was Fred and George's rat before him. He told me the rat has been in his family for twelve years . I'm so happy I didn't spend my summer with the Dursleys this year. I have had the best summer. Anyway enough about me how was your summer? What did you do and where did you go? The Weasley's and I all miss you. Write back soon.

Harry

I sigh and pull out some parchment and start writing a short reply:

Dear Harry,

I'm sorry that I haven't responded I've just been really busy this summer and to answer your question my summer has been great so far. I miss you too and I plan on coming to visit hopefully in a few days and we can all catch up before school then. I'm so glad you enjoyed your summer with the Weasleys. I went to France for the first week of summer , it was so beautiful . I loved the art museum called The Louvre . I loved seeing the Eiffel tower and The arc de Triomphe and I have been horse riding. I rode a horse called Star and she was a stallion. She was the most beautiful horse I've ever seen. I have mainly been studying which is probably why I haven't responded. Can't wait to see you.

I open the second letter it's from Ron and Ginny.

Hello Hermione,

I hope everything is ok. We are all worried about you especially me because you are my best friend and my sister. You will tell me if everything is ok won't you? Do you have any plans for your birthday? How was your summer?

We went to Egypt and let's just say that Ronald was a bit of a pain from time to time but overall it was really cool. I loved spending time with Harry because you know I have the biggest crush on him. Mum and Dad really went out of their way to get us all a trip to Egypt.

'Mione,

How are you ? I know we aren't as close as you and Harry but I'm still worried about you and miss you. Are you excited about school starting? (I know you will be because you love school and studying)

We spent most of our summer in Egypt as you might already know and when we were there it was so bloody hot like how do people live in that heat? Ginny, Harry, the twins, mum and dad called me dramatic when really I believe I was being reasonable. Anyway I hope you write back soon.

I sigh and pull out two more pieces of parchment. I can't tell them what is going on they'll worry about me besides we should be focusing on keeping Harry safe.

Ginny,

I know I haven't written to you, Harry and Ron recently and I'm sorry if I worried you all. I've just been really busy and I will visit the burrow in a few days. I don't have any plans for my birthday but don't worry about it I really don't want to celebrate it this year. I will tell you if anything is up, I promise. Wow it sounds like you had quite an eventful summer I heard you went to Egypt, it sounds amazing I wish I could have seen it. You and Harry are soulmates I know you'll end up together in the end. I went to France for the first week of summer and it was so beautiful I didn't want to come back. I did horse riding a few days a week and I have mainly been studying. (That's why I haven't been responding recently) I'll visit soon.

Ron,

I'm fine just been really busy over the summer. I will try to write to you all as much as I can in the next week and even visit the burrow in a few days to catch up. Egypt sounds great and people live in Egypt cause they're used to the heat and knowing you Ronald you probably were being over dramatic but that's just you being you. I have been studying the past few weeks and I went to France and did some horse riding but other than that my summer was quite boring. I'll see you in a few days.

From Hermione

I give the letter to Hedwig and Pigwidgeon and before I know it they're gone. I sigh and finish packing. I pack all my books in my school bag along with some photos of me the Weasley's and Harry. We were all laughing and hugging each other. When I'm done I look around my room at all the photos and happy memories that were hanging on my wall of me and my parents. A single tear manages to escape my eye as I take them down and put them away. I look around my old room which is now completely empty before walking out and down to the living room.

"I've finished packing." I try to act as strong and calm as possible and to my surprise they believed it.

"Let's go then." My mom leaves the living room leaving me and my dad alone.

"I'm going to miss you princess." He says before embracing me into a warm hug and letting a single tear escape his eye. I feel him sigh before releasing me.

"I'm going to miss you too dad. Promise me something?" I try to sound hopeful and calm.

"Of course what is it?" he looks at me with a light smile while all the tears are streaming down his face.

"Promise you'll write to me and visit whenever you can..." I look at him to see him looking at me with bright smile.

"Of course I will. I'll write to you everyday." he puts his hands on shoulders and kisses my forehead.

I sigh as I hear the car start.

"I should go. Goodbye dad." I hug my dad one last time before leaving the house and going to the car where my mom is waiting for me in the drivers seat. I put my suitcase on the back seats before getting into the passenger side and putting my seatbelt on.

"Well let's get going." she pulls out of our old drive way and start our journey to our new home.
