She tried for him. Tried to see through the smoke and dirt of the town he called home. Tried to fit into his manic life style, and for a moment she thought she did. But as quickly as she felt somewhat excepted by the family, maybe even a part of it, she was right back where she started, in the middle of Small Heath without the foggiest clue what she was going to do.

It was love at first sight. His eyes were as deep as the ocean., so mysterious, yet so relaxing at the same time. His lips so pink and plump and his skin so soft and full of youth, yet scarred with his past, but she didn't care. And from the moment he worked his signature John Shelby charisma on her she fell. Oh how hard she feel. And so did he. They fast became friends, then even faster became lovers.

Their worlds crashed together and they were obsessed with each other. She could read him like a book, and he knew her like the back of his war-torn hands.

The first time he kissed her, she was hooked. One kiss and she was addicted. She knew then that no one could ever make her feel such an electric spark. The instant he drew back from her lips and looked into those perfect eyes of hers he knew he would do anything for her.

No moment in her life had made her happier, and hoped with every bone in her body that it would be them until the end.

The nature of his job was hard, she knew that, but she was always able to pull him out of the stress and the darkest hours that being a Peaky Blinder caused him. It was as if with the touch of her hand she was able to pull his thoughts out of his head and cast them away. But for some reason... now she can't.

But isn't it strange when you drift apart from the person that you once thought you were so in tune with that you could never fall out of sync. It was weird because she was still her and he was still him, and they were in the same place where they had fallen in love.

And just like that she felt distant, not just to John, but to the whole Shelby family, a family that she thought she could finally call her own. She hadn't done anything, yet she was now the black sheep.

She tried though, to get back to where they were. She was extra sweet and put in extra effort to look nice, yet he didn't notice or maybe he just didn't care. Had he found someone new?

She was lost. She couldn't even step foot in their room, couldn't step foot back to their roots of where they first made love. A magical night of passion and fire, but also of divine love.

Oh what she had lost.

If she could just for one last time, she would pull his strings for one more dance but she can't, because as much as she did not want to admit, they were strangers living in the same house. This was not who they where. This was not what they were meant to be. But as much as it felt like a dagger to her heart she knew this couldn't go on.

So when he came though the door, looking tired and a slight bit tipsy that one fateful night, he was surprised to see that she was stood with a sad and guilty face infront of him.

"Isn't it strange" she was able to whisper loud enough for him to hear "how people can change". She glanced up at him, eyes full of tears, and a shattered heart, but she knew what she had to do. It was then when he noticed the packed bags sitting by her leg, and the coat around her shoulders. The couldn't look at each other as they knew what had to be done, and so no more was said, as she picked up her bags and walked towards the door to leave, but not before stopping just infront of him and placing a small delicate kiss on his cheek. Yet he could not look at her, his eyes fixated on the ground, as he battled to control his emotions.

How much she wanted him to stop her, to say it will all be ok, and take her up to bed, but when that moment never came she knew it was time to leave. And it was too late when he came to his senses and realised that he had just lost the love of his life.

Maybe they were never meant to have a happy ending. Maybe they should have remained strangers from the begin to avoid all this heartbreak, but life was harsh like that allowing two soulmates go from strangers to friends, friends into lovers, then strangers again...
