Norms, is who expected. But he wasn't who I expected to barge in here when I opened the front door. He was inside, facing me and donned in a chevron-pattern wool topcoat over the turtleneck he tucked in tailored trousers and metal tip leather Oxfords. He appeared anxious and the clarity in my body made me exhale easily since I found out that I was with child."My test results came to me via email and I caught a red-eye from Charlotte," He vocalized as I closed the door and hugged my oversize sweater around myself. He pulled out his phone and turned the screen to me.
I leaned in and there it was in bold—99.9998%.
He locked his phone and slid it back into his pocket. "So," he exhaled, "Can I see her?"
As if Arya was expecting a visitor, she whined on her baby monitor. "Well she's woke now."
He took off his topcoat and tossed it on the couch before he followed me to her nursery. I was about to walk in to soothe her, but he stopped me. "I got it," he assured and I stayed back by the door to watch if he could actually handle Arya when she's fussy.
He walked around the rug she played on and reached down for fussy Arya. He picked her up and bounced her softly, but her cries weren't letting up. "Just let me—"
"I got it." His tone was firm, holding Arya in a face-to-face hold. "I know baby. I know. I know right now you want Mommy. But, I want you to get used to Daddy. I know I haven't been around but if you give me a chance, I promise to make you the happiest princess in the world."
The gentle bouncing and his tone actually soothed Arya. She yawned and rubbed her nose. He cheesed and repositioned her to lay on his shoulder and rub her back gently. "Go back to sleep, baby. Daddy's here now."
A soft smile planted on my mouth and I left him alone to bond with Arya, who's also apart of him.
I took that time to wash out Arya's bottles in the kitchen.
After a moment, I felt his presence come in and turned around while drying my hands. "She sleep?"
"Yeah. Went back a little bit after you came in here." He let me know. I nodded as he leaned back on the counter and released a deep breath. "Words can't even explain how excited I am."
