As a pirate, I know many expect us to be illiterate. I, however, am not. I learned to hold a quill at the same time I learned to hold a blade. I have mastered many tongues over the several years of my life, each helpful in my exploits.

Another thing many are surprised by, is how long my life has been.

Truth be told, I never believed myself to live past the ripe age of twenty, yet here I am.

As for the story you are here to read, please offer me a moment to explain, for our world was not quite like yours. Many things would have changed over the centuries it will take for this book to reach you.

We live in a world like no other.

With magic and creatures dwelling in earth, sky, and sea. Magnificent beings lived among us. Some towered above the highest mountains whilst other were no bigger than a thumbnail. Creatures who could pass as the same as you and me and others who were too beautiful to be mistaken for a mere human being.

But several bestowed gifts and granted wishes for those they favored. I was lucky enough to find myself in the good graces of Kairos, someone you will meet later on in these pages.

Kairos gave me a stone. An opal, a gorgeous dark stone with flecks of deep greens, blues, and other breathtaking colors. A stone that, when held with the thoughts of the one you wanted most, their entire life flash before your eyes, every detail sinking into your brain and washing over you as if you lived it yourself.

A beautiful and dreadful power.

How else was I to write about his life?

As for who he is.

In a mixed-race harbour belonging to the empire of man resided a governor, along with his wife. A Naiad. The man-drowning creatures with incredible beauty.

Fluorescent blue skin that sparkled in the morning sunlight and reflect oranges and pinks during the sunsets. Deep blue eyes as well, almost as dark as the ocean on a a moonless night, while the whites of their eyes as bright as freshest of sea foam and early snow. And then their pointed ears which natural webbing, the inner flesh purple, just like the tips.

The thing about ears is they're always hidden by sleek black locks spilling over their heads and onto their shoulders. Just truly incredible, Naiads are. Were.

She birthed a boy. A shock, for the other nymphs but a delight for her husband.

A boy who, despite all rules, inherited parts of her nature.

The most obvious, her ears. The most beautiful, her eyes.

A boy who was given a troubled life early on, and then made trouble for himself as he matured.

His name?

You'll find out soon enough.

Signed
