Her glance followed the ladybird crawling on the rough-structured masonry she was sitting on, next to her the younger prince of Asgard, Loki.

His eyes wandered across his lap as he was thinking, processing what she'd told him minutes prior.

As he wasn't replying, she slightly raised her voice again. "The Allfather considered my decision as neither wise nor useless. But I feel the need to expand my knowledge, and I suspect I could learn so much more on Midgard."

Loki's lips still didn't part to speak. [Name] shifted closer and gently placed a hand on his.

"I will leave within the next few days. I hope you are aware I will come back to Asgard, aren't you, Loki?"

She received a nod from the prince. A sigh escaped her lips, and the knot built by worry inside her stomach tightened.

"Loki", she said, now finally getting his attention. "When I made this decision, I never had the intention to leave anyone behind. You must know this, my prince."

Loki seemed to process her words again, then he repelled off the masonry and landed with a soft thud.

"I am aware it has never been your intention. You've always been so curious since I've known you. Nobody forfews you experiencing something new."

Loki tried to scan her face for relief, but as far as he could tell, she was still concerned about his emotions. He inhaled deeply and gathered all his courage to turn back and give her a smile.

"I'm all fine on my own, [Name]."

He was aware she didn't believe his words, but all he could bring himself up for now was walking away and trying to suppress the mixed emotions bubbling up inside of him.

✰ ✰ ✰

Two days passed by.

Loki hadn't been able to build up the courage to search for [Name] to talk to her. The familiar feeling of suppressing his emotions had taken over his brain as well as his heart, even though he wasn't sure if that was still able to take over ever again.

His slender fingers ran across pale yet soft petals of flowers that grew on a clearance hidden deep inside the forest. Surrounding trees were sealing this magical place off the rest of the world.

The rind of a birch tree dug into Loki's clothes as he rested his back against it. His thoughts drifted off to the times he'd followed her into the forest until [Name] would find peace with herself and a book between the warm rays of sunlight that shimmered through the treetops here and there.

He'd spent hours studying her features from afar, simply for shutting his feelings down and letting her leave without her knowing of his desire in the end.

A single tear slipped down his cheek.

To him, love seemed pathetic, it made people weak and vulnerable. Yet in the same moment, his desire to be loved grew.

His desire to be loved by her.

"My prince?"

A silhouette underneath a second birch tree. It barely took a second for Loki to figure who this was.

A shuddering breath escaped his lips.
"It's you."

"I apologise for frightening you, Loki."

With every step she took, the dim light illuminated her features more, emphasizing her comforting aura. Yet something made Loki covet leaving, and as much as he disgusted himself for it, he was indeed too nervous to talk about how he felt.

Whilst his thoughts had wandered across the magical valley of his mind and back, [Name] had stepped right in front of him, still leaving some space yet close enough to spot the remains of tears on his pale skin.

Her hand wandered up to his cheek, gently cupping it and caressing across the last remaining visible tear.

"I'll respect if you're not willing to speak to me", she spoke softly. "But in case I made you feel this way, just swing it, I beg you. I cannot leave you behind in these conditions."

Loki lifted his glance, finally meeting her shiny eyes after such a long time. They were begging for him to say something.

His lips parted. He broke the eye contact, inhaling sharply.

"I... I'm not sure how to..." His cold hand hesitated for a moment, then it reached out for hers and clasped her warm, delicate fingers, causing her eyes to light up.

"You're... you're simply... enchanting. And impeccable and flawless and magical and amazing and lovely and..."

Loki inhaled deeply when he noticed tears starting to cloud his vision again. A shade of pink started to spread across his cheek bones.

"And I've fallen so deeply for you, I'm afraid I cannot let you ever go again."

Silence.

[Name] had no clue what to answer. The sudden amount of words that had been compliments at the same time caught her off guard. Her cheeks flushed and her eyes met now her feet instead of his eyes.

The tears in Loki's eyes threatened to spill. Guilt and worry replaced the nervousness as well as the excitement that had flooded his veins.

"Please", he begged, lifting up her chin with his free hand. "Whatever you feel like saying, I crave a response."

[Name] licked her lips before meeting his glance again.

"You've been carrying this all around with you for a long time, didn't you?"

Loki bit his lip and nodded hesitantly. Meanwhile, adrenaline was rushing through his body, desperately begging for an answer. But all of it was suddenly replaced by an emotion he had never ever felt before as he felt soft lips pressing to his cheek.

Loki's heart skipped a beat.

"Lucky you", [Name] smiled as she pulled away to face him again.

"Because I might think I did so as well."
