So, to make some things clear in the pilot chapter:

1) This is, for the most part, a semi-crack fic (or at least an attempt of one) pre first shinobi war.

2) The mc will be a sort of Mary Sue but mostly through effort, knowledge and shadow clones. She will be around/above sannin in level.

3) The mc is mostly me having a dive into the character of 'Nyx' I created in a previous fic of mine and me exploring what would have happened to the lover of moral philosophy in the bloody mist at its worst as well as two shinobi wars.

4) She will adopt the chibis. There is no question.

5) Even with the mist and war, I doubt she would stoop as low as to experiment on young children and shall likely still have her usual soft spot for chibis.

6) She will eventually change a lot of things in the timeline, though whether by accident or on purpose remains to be seen.

7) She will likely allow black Zetsu to bring back Kaguya, if only to ask her some questions or attempt to give her an existential crisis.

Pilot Chapter:

A crash. A sickening crunch. Pain flooded her system.

Then she succumbed to the darkness that called to her, oblivious to the distraught cries of her name.

On that day, the life of one Nyx Lilith Aphelion came to an end, pushing her two closest friends -practically unofficial siblings- out of a car as it crashed into another and was lost in a fiery inferno.

In her eulogy Dakota, one of the two stated that 'at least she died in a blaze of glory, as well as with a bang. Damn, now I'm sounding like Deidara.'

Angelo didn't say anything as he was too busy crying and stress eating Nyx's recipe for mochi and drinking from her tea collection, in hopes to have her come back if only to tell him off for drinking her tea. Because nobody with a will to live touches her tea.

And in another place, shrouded in mistery (see what I did there?) a little girl was born, with a mane of reddish pink hair and somewhat reptilian eyes, reminiscent of a snake.

For in Kirikagure, a child of intelligence unusual for her age -or, in fact, any age- was born. And whether she was a monster or a savior...? Well, that was up to her and the conditions she would be subjected to as she aged.

A mother, with shocking red hair and eyes that bled red took her final breaths, naming the child 'Kei (恵)' meaning blessing, a surname of 'Hinode (日ノ出)' meaning sunrise and, unusually, a middle name 'Nagami (永巳)' meaning eternal snake

A father held the child with slight disdain, it, she, was no more covered in blood than his... test subjects... but what unsettled him were the eyes gazing at him, every inch his own.

Eyes full of intelligence, unfocused as they were.

His wife smiled, her breath rattling as she at last stopped fighting the inevitable and yielded her life to death, then she was no.

The man left, child buried in his arms.

Three years later...

Kei (once known to all as Nyx) was sitting in her father's laboratory, learning about all matters of subjects, from fuinjutsu to how to make the perfect pancake. Her father was thorough.

Hinode Orochi (Hinode is the surname) is an illustrious man, known for his scientific achievements. And he was passing on all his knowledge to his young daughter (though he told everyone she was his son, in order to protect her).

Her elder brother, Hinode Kaido, was a ninja. And a damn good one too, specialising in fuinjutsu and ninjutsu. He was also known for having some very strong genes from his father's side, even going as far as to have scaled skin in some areas, though they appeared near undetectable. He was also known for obsessing over some...shadow reunion? He left her with a mild sense of déjà vu every time she saw him. He, much like their father, doted on her but he didn't spend as much time at home as he was busy on missions. He was known as a prodigy.

She has also met her uncle in Konohagakure, twelve years after the founding of Konoha when she was two. Her memories of him were blurred, though she remembered he looked like his elder brother, her father. From what she could tell her uncle virtually hero worshiped her father. He was nice, and a little more emotional than her side of the family from what she had remembered he'd spent a lot of time in the lab and had a heavy crush on some black haired woman. He would likely end up marrying her, Nyx-Kei- mused. And their child will likely be Orochimaru. Making him her younger...cousin...

She supposed that wasn't too objectionable of a relative. Better him than Pervy sage at any rate. She truly could not stand men who have nothing better to do than peep on women. She liked those who did have something better to do even less when they did so. It was unbecoming. Although she doubted it was past her old friend Dakota. She didn't miss some of his eccentricities but she did miss his company, as well as Angelo's and her tea. Her collection in this world was dwarfed by that in her original, it was barely a sixteenth of it and that was even counting her fathers. Her brother preferred coffee. Apparently her mother did too, back when she was alive. She went back to her book. She was all but fluent in Japanese kanji, katakana and hiragana but her father would occasionally need to explain a word to her even now. She was reading about one of her current favourite subjects, poisons. She was already building up her immunity as her father and brother did before her and had even managed to secure a venomous snake, an albino mamushi, who she affectionately called Shiro-mushi-chan, much to her fathers amusement.

She idly waved a kunai, switching hands hoping to become ambidextrous.

And so began her second life.
