Shizukas body tensed, jaw screwing shut tightly as though she had uttered the most sinful of words moments before. "That's an option you have." She somehow managed to say. "I'm not telling you what to do."
"Be honest with me, then. Is there a chance for us to find a cure?"
They looked dead serious. No, beyond that. This was a simple yes or no question to Shizuka, and as easy as it may have sounded to answer, this may very well determine how (Y/n) looked at her, or at least, acted towards her. They might go manic, they might spiral out of control, they might get angry and hurt her. They're unpredictable in every sense, but that comes with the fact that they've already lost their mind a while back.
A moment of silence passed; Then two, then three, then however many it took for Shizuka to start feeling the truth bubbling out of her throat in a storm. "I have my doubts." Here goes nothing. "All those doctors couldn't find anything despite their lives being in danger, and I'm just one person."
And that she was. One person, barely a qualified nurse, on an uninhabited island filled to the brim with corpses, and a delusional survivor (if you can even call them that at this point)-- there really wasn't much she could do.
"I see." They said it in a way of acknowledging her, but not hearing her. Though, after a moment, it seemed to finally register. "Oh. I see..."
"..?"
"Guess this had to end this way." They managed to laugh. "I wish I was never born at all, right now."
"(Y/n), you have some good memories too, surely?"
The person in question dropped their head into their hands, struggling to contain their sobs from breaking into their words. "Right. I'm not, I'm not completely unlucky... I had awesome parents, a nice house, and I grew up without too many worries."
Shizuka let her hand slip into theirs again, eyebrows flying upward when their grip became rather strong-- though it didn't stop her from listening to them. "I could even meet the most amazing man ever. There will never be someone like him again, in the whole world... But he keeps slipping through my fingers, for a reason or another. Ah, Tonio, what will I ever do without you...? Won't you look my way for a second?"
"I won't say that life is fair or anything like that." She hummed, catching their attention. "Still, you have some time left to think about what you'd like to do."
"...Aren't you being too nice to me, for listening so much?"
Shizuka cocked her head to the side. "Huh?"
"I know you want that boat, but you must really be a good person. I've always been the islands oddball, y'know..."
"It doesn't matter what people thought of you. I have no idea how this place was before I arrived.... But you're another human being, and you've been through a lot. I will at least lend you an ear, yes?"
"Thank you, I--" (Y/n) head would snap up as they rushed to wipe their face clean of their own snot and tears, using their striped sleeve as the designated napkin before standing. "Do you wanna have a walk together? I guess I wouldn't mind talking a bit more to you before everything is over."
It was a cute request; and yet, it was equally a depressing one, as the reminder that they hadn't long to live rung in their heads.
"Gladly," She smiled as she followed right behind, "I don't think I can be a savior or anything, but I can listen to anything you want to share."
"Heh, so nice... Let me show you something."
