AS A RESULT OF THE ACCIDENT, Mateo was allowed to have the following two days out of school to adjust to the extra weight of the boot he'd be wearing for the next six weeks or so.

Normally Mateo would be relieved to have a few extra days away from school, but that was before he devolved a crush on one Jasper Hale.

Yes, a crush. The Hispanic male realized the growing feelings for the golden eyed boy when said male decided to make an appearance in his dreams. It was nothing naughty— just a weird, hazy memory of Jasper and him laying in a field full of cornflowers, daisies and a ton of other wild flowers.

Not that Mateo remembers much from the dream, only bits and pieces of a conversation and barely there memory of the Hale laughing at some dumb comment Mateo made.

Letting out a sigh, Mateo shook his head at the blurry memory of the dream he had. Currently he was sitting on his bed listening to A Thousand Miles as he boredly painted his nails using the bright purple nail polish Bella had in her room.

It's not like she used it anyways..

"I, I don't wanna let you know. I, I drown in your memory-" Mateo's singing was cut off by his door slamming open, startling him enough from him to smudge his nails a bit making him mutter out curses while closing the lid.

With a glare, he looked up to tell the person off only to halt when he was a fuming Bella pacing his room, the nail on her right index finger between her teeth as she bit at it. Frowning, Mateo moved over so his back was against the wall so he could look at the girl properly. "What's wrong with you? Was the trip that bad?" He finally asked, hoping the girl would stop walking a tunnel in his floor.

"The trip was fine, it's just Edward being a dick again. I mean, today he just walked up on me asking me what's in Jacksonville and stuff like we're best buds then not even ten minutes later he's all moodily talking about 'We shouldn't be friends', who even does that? I mean, is he bipolar or something?" Bella began to rant, arms swinging all over the place as she let it all out.

Mateo, being the good person he was, listened as the girl ranted out her frustration. Even going as far as turning off his music and occasionally muttering out comments to let her know he was listening.

"-maybe I should keep my distance. I mean, obviously he doesn't like me." Bella ended, tossing herself on the bed before crawling over to rest her head on Mateo's lap, who in return made sure his nails were dry before running his fingers through the brown strands.

"Forget him, Bells. If he doesn't realize how great you are then he doesn't deserve you. Also the mind games aren't cool at all, don't let him drag you along on his mood swings. Put your foot down, defend yourself." To be honest, Mateo had no idea what he was saying. Although he genuinely wanted to sooth the girls worries, he had no idea how to do so or what to say.

"I know but I don't understand why he's like this. I-I mean is it something I did?" Her voices cracked as she spoke revealing just how confused and upset she was about the whole situation.

Raising an eyebrow, Mateo paused his movements to look the girl in the eyes. "Uh, like hell it is. You did absolutely nothing wrong, he's just a jerk." Continuing his movements, Mateo looked up at the wall before an idea struck him. "Listen, I go back to school tomorrow and if you want I can have a chat with him. He may be a few inches taller but I'm pretty sure I can take him in a fight. He seems like the type to bite people instead of punch them— and no I will not elaborate on that."

Finally, for the first time since she got back from school, the pale girl let out a small laugh. "I am curious but I feel like your reasoning won't make any sense so I won't ask. Also, you literally just got out of the hospital two days ago with a broken ankle, I think that puts you at a disadvantage."
