"Well, today is the day." I said to myself as I sat on my bed, staring out my window. Today was the day that I would have dinner with Belos. Eda still thought I shouldn't go but I had to, not only was the clinic at stake, I also gave my word that I would go. I sighed to myself before getting up and heading downstairs to start breakfast. "Morning Kaia!" Hooty appeared in front of my face but I was used to that by now. "Good morning Hooty." I patted the worm demon's head and went into the kitchen. I decided to make waffles with different kinds of fruit, all safe for Luz to eat. I was so lost in my thoughts that I didn't even hear Eda come downstairs. "You're up early, well earlier than usual." I turned around, a little startled. "Eda! I didn't hear you come downstairs. Well, breakfast is ready." I said with a forced smile. I'm sure Eda didn't buy it. We heard footsteps coming down the stairs. "Good morning everyone!" Luz had big cheery smile on her face as she bounced into the kitchen. "Good morning Luz." I greeted and handed her plate of waffles and fruit. "Waffles! Thanks Kaia." Luz gasped, eyes wide and happy.

"So Kaia?" Luz began, after she sat down at the table. "Yes, Luz?" Luz seemed hesitant to continue. "Today you have to go to the palace, huh?" I sighed and nodded. "Yes." Eda grunted. "I still think you shouldn't go. I mean, what if he tries something." I chuckled. "Of course, he is going to try something. I would be shocked if he doesn't." I leaned against the counter, my cup of apple blood in hand. "Aren't you worried?" Luz was concerned but I waved her off. "Don't worry, I'm prepared for any mind magic he might pull and I can dodge his mental games well enough." "Wait, do you mean the?" Eda now had a smirk on her face and I nodded, pulling out a small black box. I opened it and pulled out a special necklace. "What's that? It's so pretty!" Luz was looking at the pendant with sparkly eyes. "This is one the last things my father gave me. It's a necklace made from a heart stone and star metal. It repels suggestion magic." I looked at the necklace sadly, Eda placed a hand on my shoulder. "Wait, last thing your father gave you?" I nodded with a sad smile. "What was he like?" Luz understood immediately what that meant. "My father? Well, my father was an amazing witch and a very loving man. I could always go to him for just about anything. Any questions I had, he tried to answer, even ones that he didn't want to. He also a weird sense of humor." Eda snorted at that. "Yeah, he did. Remember that one time, he tried to help your plant project." I laughed at the memory. "Yeah, that didn't end well." Luz looked between us. "What happened?" "My father was good at many things but a botanist, he was not. He nearly got eaten by my Juju Fly Rose and then he just complained about being covered in plant saliva, not even by the fact that was swallowed whole by a giant carnivorous flower." I chuckled. "He also couldn't cook." Eda and I shivered at the memories of my father cooking. "He couldn't cook?" I shook my head. "No, that's why I know how to cook. My dad's cooking would kill you." "Wow, what about your mom." My laughter died down before I forced another smile. "Anyway, I have several things I need to do before I head to the palace. I'll be in my gardens." I left the kitchen area.

Eda's Pov.

Eda stared at her best friend's retreating formwith narrow eyes. She had known Lykaia long enough to know when something wasbothering her. Eda knew what was on her mind; the dinner with that monster,Belos. She growled inwardly. That bonehead had caused them a lot of trouble overthe years, even more so for Lykaia with his attempts of persuading her to joinhis coven. This was the first time that he had managed to push Lykaia in acorner, by using something she loved doing against her. "Eda?" Eda looked atLuz. "Is Kaia going to be okay? She seemed sad." Eda sighed, putting her mug ofappleblood down. "Listen kid, Kaia lost her entire family a long time ago in anaccident. She doesn't like talking about it and now this whole thing theEmperor, she has a lot on her mind." Luz made a sound of understanding andlooked in the direction that Lykaia left in. "Can't we do something for her. Imean, she does a lot for us." Luz asked. Eda shook her head. "The only thing wecan do for her, is support her and make sure that the Emperor doesn't doanything to hurt her."
