Going Back

I never would've thought I'd be back here. Kind of like I thought I'd never leave.
California ...

Looking out the passenger side window of the moving van, I take in the view I haven't seen for years. All the palm trees that line the streets. The blue immersion of the horizon. With the fluorescent sun burning bright in the blue sky.

"Are you sure this is what you want, Mathai?" I turned to a concerned looking mother.

"Positive. I think this is the best thing I need right now. And besides isn't it a little too late to turn back?"

"No. Just say the word and we're gone," I simply nod while she continues. "You know it doesn't make you any more vulnerable because of your... You know...." she trails off.

There's a sinking feeling in my chest at the mention of it. "It kind of does. Everyone that knows treats me like the most fragile thing in the world. It makes me feel like I'm nothing but vulnerable."

She frowns and I guess she gets the hint that I don't want to talk about the topic. As quick as my mood dampened, it revived when we past one of my favorite fast food places. Carl's Jr ! I turn to my mom and give her the best and biggest puppy dog face I could muster. Amusement flashes through her eyes and I know she's going to cave.

Fifteen minutes and two 1/2lb mile high bacon cheeseburgers later....

We pull into the drive way of a beautiful two story house. I gape at the house in shock: 1) because its a gorgeous asš house and 2) because I'm lazy so imagine how long its going to take to put everything in its place!

As if she read my mind my mother says "don't think my lazy asš is unpacking and putting everything thing in that house! That's why we have movers." I couldn't hold back my laugh (not that I tried). Oh gosh! She's a crazy one.
