From this day forward, they vowed to never tell anybody about their love for each other, they weren't planning on telling anyone, either way. However, it was just in case. In fact, the barely discussed it with each other. They felt so embarrassed of their feelings for one another, for in that time it was seen as sin and people alienated queer people from society as if they were never human.
Chassity was desperate to tell everyone about her love for Edith but she knew she would most likely be discriminated against and disowned by everybody she knew and loved.
Edith resorted to burying her feelings yet again. She couldn't bring herself to even think about how much she loved this woman, not again.
Although it sounds dramatic, it really was like internal torture for them.
