The rain sang softly as it pattered against the bookshop windows in its sweet song of beauty. Paris fell quiet as the symphony of water droplets sang louder into the encore of their song. The bookshop hummed its own song as the music inside played old, vintage songs of love - Elvis, Frank Sinatra, Édith Piaf, Paul Anka, the cliché oldies - but that's why she loved them.
The feeling of being in a romance novel or movie, feeling like she's still in the olden days, it was her escape. Being the only one in the store, she swayed along to the music as she placed the books onto the shelves, the candlelight dancing along her body in unison. Her hair tickled her face when she twirled to the melody.
Mesmerized by the song she failed to notice the young gentleman now smiling to himself as he watched her lose herself. Stepping from the shelves she looked up to meet his gaze. Her heart sped up for a moment at the scare.
"Beg my pardoning, my intention was not to startle you miss" the man chuckled
"Oh no no, that's alright I should have been paying attention you see" she exclaimed, "May I help you, sir?"
"Oh no don't mind me, just browsing thank you" he smiled
Returning the smile, she turned around and resumed her task as she winced at the embarrassment, she could feel the soft heat rising upon her cheeks. Grabbing a book, she reached up to the shelf but couldn't quite reach it. Lifting onto her tiptoes she created momentum to reach the shelf but it was still not enough.
Huffing, she retreated to the floor only to feel a hand softly graze hers as it took the book present in her hand and swiftly place it upon the shelf. Turning around she was faced with the man looking down at her smiling, his body keeping hers between the shelf and him. His warm fresh scent calmed her as his gentle amber eyes met hers.
"Thank you" she managed to utter.
The man only responded with a soft smile and a head tilt. He stepped back and extended a hand gesturing for her to take it.
"Care for a dance madam?" he hummed, voice warm as the candles illuminating his sharp features.
Smiling, she took his hand and placed her other upon his shoulder, him copying her yet wrapped around her waist. The warmth from their bodies intertwined as they swayed along to the music, he hummed to the song 'La vie en rose' only singing that one specific line when gazing into her eyes. Her breath tickled his neck as their bodies pressed together, their scents combining into one the longer they held each other.
