That's what everyone says. But what if I don't know who myself is? I know bits and pieces but how do I know my whole self? How can I be someone who contradicts herself? Who is shy but also outgoing? Quiet but loud? Inspired yet lazy? I don't know who I am. I don't know my personality or my interests or my identity. It's always changing and I don't know what's true and what's not.
Unless it's all true? What if I'm not put together, but that's okay? What if I don't have to know who I am? What if I don't need an identifying label to be valid?
I don't like the phrase "be yourself" because it asumes there is a define "yourself" to be. Instead, create yourself. Every single second of your life you are a new person, and you can decide who this person is going to be. Invent a new quirk about yourself. Learn a new hobby, find a new interest, switch up your personality every once in a while. YOU are not a fixed idea; you are a fluid creation. So go create yourself, and don't worry of the idea someone else has of you, because only you can decided who you are.
