nineteen'So you bought it to protect me? That's what you're saying?'
It was dark when we got home, around ten when I told Maddy to get ready. "You know any places that are open?" She called from the bathroom as she brushed her hair and turned on the straightener.
"Well, do you want real food or something a little better for your appetite?" I asked from the doorway.
She turned towards me and batted her beautiful brown eyes in my direction. She really knew how to make me melt in less than a second. I shoved my hands in my pockets to keep my composure.
"You need help with anything?" I asked, attempting to change the subject.
"Actually, yeah, could you grab me a new bra from
my bedside dresser? I need to take a shower before we go."I nodded my head, happy to get out of the bathroom. My knees were practically shaking as I walked into the ed room and rounded to her side of the bed, where her dresser was.
I opened the top drawer and pulled out a random bra, about to close the dresser when I heard something fall. I turned my head and crouched in front of the dresser to pull out a necklace. As I held it up in front of me and the bathroom light hit it, I immediately realized what it was.
"Come on, Oliver, we're going to be late!" Maddy whined from the bathroom before entering the bedroom and seeing me with her rosary in hand.
I knew she didn't have this when she first moved in because she had absolutely nothing. I don't know when or why she bought this but it rubbed me the wrong way.
Did she not trust me enough for her to be alone without some sort of protection? Is that why she had it? Did she think I was going to attack her as I had done two months ago?
"What is this?" I whispered. I didn't feel anything except confusion.
"I-I-"
"When did you get this?" I slammed the drawer shut and stood up straight, walking around the where she was. The entire house was silent, everyone was asleep except rode the two of us.
"I bought it a long time ago, Oliver." She fumbled with her words and backed up slowly as if she were afraid of me. I didn't notice it then, but I was intimidating her more than I thought I was.
"Why do you have this?" I demanded, throwing it onto the floor and watching it scatter across the wooden floor. "You're afraid of me now? You think you need a rosary to keep me from hurting you?"
"No! I just thought I might need it for myself!"
"Why would you need this? Come on, Madeline, first Roman now this? You think I don't have a reason to be upset over these types of things anymore?"
I hated raising my voice and I especially didn't want to embarrass Madeline if anyone else was awake and listening.
"Oliver, please, it wasn't mean to be offensive towards you I bought it because I was confused. I didn't want to bleed again, I thought maybe it'd help."
"So you bought it to protect me? That's what you're saying?" I scoffed at her excuse.
She was confusing me. I understood how I was — intimidating — that day, but a rosary? Some religions protection? Out of all things she could've bought, she chose a rosary. It didn't matter if she hadn't bought it with ill intention, she offended me either way. I was one hundred percent upset with her at this moment. I didn't want to be near her anymore.
"Oliver, come on, just — listen!" She pulled on my arm and batted her eyes at me again. She stared so deep into my nonexistent soul that I almost felt pity for how upset she was but instead pulled myself away from her.
"I'm going to sleep. In the living room."
I slammed the door behind me as I shuffled into the hallway and into the kitchen. I crouched down under the sink and pulled out the big jar of sheep's blood before pouring me a cup. At least this would be some proof to myself that I didn't need to worry about killing people for blood anymore.
I sipped it from behind the island as I contemplated my thoughts. I wasn't one to be overthinking or even feel guilty for most things. At this point in time I'd usually escape deep into town and find some girl to drain dry.
I was pissed off at most. Maddy didn't trust me enough to not buy a fucking rosary to hide inside our bedroom. She could've bought a spell jar from Aria and tied it around my neck like a dog and it'd be the same thing. Now, I couldn't be trusted enough for her to leave it out in the open? At least tell me about it before you move into my bedroom and start cozying all up on me.
I was furious. I had no date tonight and I had no date to the premiere party tomorrow.
