I pulled on my pink bikini top,  rainbow bottoms and a white tank top. I put on a pink hoodie and yoga shorts over that. I replaced the navel ring and put the six studs in my ear cartilage, tied my hair in a ponytail, and ran my fingers over the white scars of my thighs and hip. I shook the memories from my head and admired my tattoos in the mirror.

Jacob and I arrived at the beach. Everyone was already there so I threw my hoodie in the passenger seat and jogged across the sand with him.

"Sweet tats!" Jared smiled and I smiled back, waving at him. I glanced around quickly. No Paul.

"He's not here yet." Leah sat next to me. I gasped and smiled.

"Don't know what you're talking about." I winked and started stretching. "Ever done yoga?" I smiled and she shook her head.

"I've heard it's super relaxing though. Show me?" she said excitedly.

"The first is the Wheel Pose. Lower yourself onto all fours, but bending your back in. Bend your knees, good! Don't let your legs bow out to the sides. Take ten breaths." We breathed together and went to the next move. I could feel the stares of boys--Jake's friends and strangers--as we did this. We did a few different moves and then lay on the sand.

"Wow! My body is all loosened up now. I feel great!" She smiled and patted my leg. That's when she noticed the scars.

"Nova..." Her voice was filled with concern.

"Leah, don't start. My day is going good." I smiled and stood. "Let's get in the water."

"You girls wanna go in the water, huh?" I turned to see Embry and Jacob.

"Oh, no you don't!" Leah yelled.

"You don't have to throw me in. I surrender. I'll go peacefully." I smiled and Embry picked me up, slinging me over his shoulder. I laughed and Jake chased Leah to the water. The guys jumped in and kept throwing us under. Leah was genuinely happy and it was the best time I'd had in ages.

That night, I took a shower and wrapped a towel around me. Before going to my room, I checked on Jake and my dad. They both slept soundly. I got to my room and pulled on a pink printed Wildfox tank top and plaid pajama pants. I replaced the earrings in my lobes with blue diamonds and my charm bracelet set.

I was drifting off to sleep when I heard a door creak open down the hall. Footsteps padded past my door and I sat up. I cracked the door open an inch and saw Jake open the front door and leave.

I narrowed my eyes, grabbed a robe and followed him. He ran toward the woods and several boys appeared. Brady, Quil, Embry, Paul, and Sam. What were they doing out here? It's close to two in the morning by now. They spoke quietly.

        "You what?!" Jacob shoved Paul.

"I didn't mean to!" Paul growled.

"Jake, I know how you feel about Paul. But it's good for them. They need each other. It'll be good for her." Sam said with a cautious look. Jake ran off and I followed him, still at the edge of the woods. I heard a violent ripping sound and I blinked.

I saw Jacob transform into a russet wolf. He sniffed the air, then looked straight at me. I was speechless. I ran from the trees and back inside the house. I locked the door and ran to my room, climbing in bed and pulling the covers up. I didn't get to sleep until four in the morning.

I woke up at 7 and dressed quickly in a vanilla tank top, pink skinny jeans, a black leather motorcycle jacket, and black high heels with gold diamonds on them.

I snuck through the house. Jake's truck was still here. I grabbed my bag from the living room and left quietly. We only lived a mile from the school so I jogged the whole way. I needed to avoid my brother until I could think clearly and talk to him about what I had seen.

I arrived in my first class just as the bell rang. Everyone stared again, but I took my seat in the back next to Embry. He turned to me and smiled as the teacher began her lesson.

         "Hey," he whispered.

"Hi..." I opened my notebook and copied whatever the teacher had on the board. I could feel Embry staring at at me strangely.

I got through the rest of the morning without running into any of the guys. Jacob hadn't shown up for school. I hoped he was giving me my space until I was ready to talk...
