I'm at my high school apparently. And right now I'm in a cart headed to the basement section of our school for a little bit of science. Me and a select few of kids have gotten chosen for this rare event! To actually get a glimpse at the black mist! This mist has special powers of the beholder which gives the the ability to transform living beings and to control their minds. Our chaperone and host is our very own chemistry teacher Mr.Bay.

The golf cart winds its way down the dirt path surrounded by big leaves, tall hedges, and large trees that completely gives a jungle-y feel. Looking back I see the campus shrink away. The basement area is far separate from the school so that in case of emergencies when dangerous chemicals leak in the basement it won't harm anyone at the school. Jarred out of my thoughts by a jolt from the cart I turn back forward to see we have arrived.

We all load off the cart and stand in a small group in front of the brown doors before us that lead to the basement level. It takes a few moments to get in because Mr.Bay has to sort through his large selection of keys on his ring holder to find the right one that will take us inside. Once found; a deep Clank echoed from within signaling that the doors have opened. Mr.Bay lugged open the heavy iron doors for us, immediately we were hit with a musty smell having us all in a coughing fit. Waving his hand in front of his face to clear the air Mr.Bay pulled out an already lit lantern and turned towards us. "Alright kids! So the lighting system on the way down is absolutely horrible! I'm gonna go down first and I want you to stay close behind! Watch your step, please don't fall." I eyed Mr.Bay with an odd look. He sounded much too cheery for such drab news. Like a flight attendant telling the passengers to entertain themselves at the 5 hour flight they had ahead of them. Ugh anyway. Mr.Bay started to head down the dark stairwell devoid of all light; his mere lantern was almost swallowed after the first few steps! We followed as close as we could to him, a little too close for my liking and eventually we were at the bottom.

Mr.Bay walked to a wall and flipped on an unseen lightswitch. The room flickered a bit into focus before being illuminated by a much stronger light then Mr.Bay's stupid lantern. We all gasped, surprised by the sheer size of the area. There was a decontamination room; a bathroom; dressing room for suits; a few computers set up off to the side and of course cabinets filled with what I'm guessing information filed away about experiments held down here. Truly marvelous indeed.

What's in the center of the room though catches my eye. Even the other kid's eyes as well. Crowding around this small podium that held a cage on top we all peer inside. To my surprise I see Larry; Mr.Bay's beloved pet rattlesnake. "Mr.Bay, What is Larry doing here?" Some guy in our group asked the question I'm sure we were all wondering. "Good question, Larry is going to be our little guinea pig for the day. You see apparently when it comes to snakes the black mist injected in small doses makes them larger. So today I am going to show you what that looks like. Wait right here I'm gonna go and get some of the mist to show you right now." In my head I wondered if this entire thing was legal and how does Mr.Bay not have a heart? I'm sure Larry doesn't want to be put through this. I looked down at the snake coiled up in the center of the cage. His black eyes stared at me and I could almost feel the soft cry for help.

Mr.Bay's retreating footsteps went off to one of the rooms which I'm assuming held the mist. I was so entranced with the snake's eyes that this sharp yell followed by a loud thump made me jump. The group and I turned noticing it had came from the direction Mr.Bay went. "Uh..Mr.Bay is everything alright back there?" I took a few hesitant steps forward and angled myself just so I can peer into the doorway Mr.Bay had entered in. What I had seen was not a very welcoming sight.

There on the floor lay our chemistry teacher Mr.Bay face down with a knife sticking out of his back. I could see the faint glimmer of light reflecting off of the crimson pool surrounding him. "Oh..god Mr.Bay!" I hurriedly retreated back to the others; what had killed him? My question was soon answered.
