Y/N POV
Once I got off the bus, I asked other athletes and staff members if they had seen a blonde girl walking away from the bus and in which direction she had gone. I did so until I arrived in the green area of the Olympic village, known as the more peaceful and quiet area, which was in front of the Canadian national team building.
In the distance I saw an isolated seated figure, scanning the horizon and to me there were no more doubts. That was Abby.
Slowly I approached the distant figure and seeing the shirt with "States" written on, I had no more doubts."May I sit next to you?" I asked politely, drawing her attention. Seeing me she looked surprised, and quite a lot judging by her look, but without giving me any verbal answer, I got one with a nod, signalling her approval while she was wiping her tears. Once I received the consent, I sat down next to her. After a few minutes of silence, Abby decided to break the ice.
"...what are you doing here...?" She asked trying to calm down.
"I'm here to listen to you if you'll let me. I know we just met and we have no confidence, but I would like to try to help. It is from the game that I see you downcast and sad, even if you tried to hide it ... " I explained, continuing to look at the dark view.Abby listened carefully and, with a bitter smile, answered soon after.
"We've only known each other for just a few hours and you were able to see what many of my teammates have not been able to see, apart from Sam of course...
Thank you for your interest, really, but there is no need. Tomorrow is another day..."
"Of course there is need Abby. I know it's none of my business, but you can't continue to stay like this and pretend that nothing has happened between night and day, following Scarlett O'Hara's words from Gone with the Wind as a mantra. You need to smile again and be carefree" I said bringing my gaze to her, showing her that I really thought what I was saying.
"...And what should I do in your opinion? Address the problem? Don't repress my feelings or using Scarlett's words? " She asked looking for my gaze.
"Even if I don't know what happened, I believe it is always good to express your thoughts and feelings. Abby we are not robots, let alone perfect. We are here to live, and not to survive. You deserve to be happy, to smile, to enjoy the little things, to have fun and not to feel caged, or to have to put in a box what you are and feel. Every now and then you have to try to externalize it all... "I told her sincerely, looking straight into her hazel-forest eyes.
