-chapter 2-

I sat lazily staring at the wall as Ms. Dale talked on about the songs that the choir would need to sing for the Spring performance.

"Oh!" she exclaimed, snatching me out of my trance and causing my surprised gaze to fall on her. She smiled broadly at me before laughing faintly. "Ms. Check, I almost forgot my rule. All new students or members of our schools choir have to sing for the class on their first day." she chirped.

She couldn't possible be serious, could she?

Ashton patted my knee then motioned towards the front of the class. Oh dear lord, she was serious.

I stood and slowly walked to the front of the class. My nervous glance soon landed on Michael. One of his snake bites tilted upward as he smirked at me. I quickly looked over to the music teacher.

"do.. do you possibly have a guitar I could use?" I smiled weakly as she ran to a back room before appearing back with a black acoustic guitar.

I handled it with caution before placing my fingers on certain frets and taking a deep breath. I strummed the first few chords before boldly singing.

"I never thought I'd die alone

I laughed the loudest who'd have known?

I traced the cord back to the wall

No wonder it was never plugged in at all

I took my time, I hurried up

The choice was mine I didn't think enough

I'm too depressed to go on

you'll be sorry when I'm gone"

I looked up to see the three friends of mine grinning ear to ear. I could see Calum's fingers move as if he were playing the bass chords and Luke's matched mine.

"I never conquered, rarely came

16 just held such better days

Days when I still felt alive

We couldn't wait to get outside

The world was wide, too late to try

The tour was over we'd survived

I couldn't wait till I got home

To pass the time in my room alone"

I looked over to a slightly confused yet seemingly happy Michael. I tried to take my gaze off of him but he just seemed so... captivating.

"I never thought I'd die alone

Another six months I'll be unknown

Give all my things to all my friends

You'll never step foot in my room again

You'll close it off, board it up

Remember the time that I spilled the cup

Of apple juice in the hall

Please tell mom this is not her fault"

As I looked at Ashton, who had a bit of amazement in his eyes, all of my nerves seemed to go away in an instant.

"I never conquered, rarely came

16 just held such better days

Days when I still felt alive
