The rain swamped everything. It seeped into every noook and crevace.
You could not hide from it...any shelter was just delaying the inevitable. A soggy, soaking, drench. Yea. Drenched was the word. With that came the mood....dark, foreboding and invariably fucked up. That was exactly how Ricki felt. 'Dis friggin rain keeping my shit back...how I supposed to eat if I can't get out dey?' he mused as he surveyed the water logged landscape before him.
He did not mind the rain. In fact he loved it and it suited him just fine occasionally. Just not today. Not when he had to get out there and get some. Not when he was hungry. And definitely not when it would hinder his progress to the point of being life threatening.
From his vantage point under the leaves of a banana tree he could see the majority of the area designated as a land fill for dumping solid waste. A fucking garbage dump to many, a treasure throve to the no-ones. That was exactly who Ricki was...no-one.
He stepped out from the shelter into the rain picking his way carefully through the the garbage and slimy muddy slush poking at the mounds that looked promising.
I ha to eat i ha to eat i ha to eat...not going home empty handed...not to mudercunt day...someting mus come somting mus come...mus find someting to sell today...rain a good...keepin all dem scrapers under cover. Dem fuckers doh want nutting with dis rain...but i is Ricki an i mus eat today....His thoughts were focused on navigating the various mounds of garbage while gingerly poking at items with a thin piece of metal pipe that was bent at both ends. Occasionally he would snag items and slip them into the burlap sack that he carried. He wasn't looking for anything in particular...that meant that anything could interest him.
