(A/N) Hi! My name is Kat :) I just wanted to write a brief introductory note before you read. This is, (if you couldn't already tell) my first story! Now a fair warning this isn't ALLLL gonna be fluff 😏, however it will be slow-burn since yknow, we've got wholesome innocent baby Spence so I don't wanna rush into this. A lot of this is focusing on the main character and their development which is, you! (Y/N) In this story Y/N uses she/her, she/they, feminine pronouns. In the future I'll most likely write books with characters of different pronouns (if wanted ofc, lol) Focus will also be on cases, sorta to test my creative writing muscles :) A special thanks to two of my close friends Chibi and Blue for helping me with the creative and writing process! <33 (takes place around S4 and S5- maybe up to S6) With that out of the way, enjoy!

Y/N = your name Y/N/N = your nickname Y/L/N = your last name

March 21st, 2005.

The exact date of your first day working as a profiler at the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit, or for short, the BAU.

When recalling it, you're overwhelmed with those same first day jitters you felt at the time. To be fair, you get those every time JJ calls the team in to the conference room. Before being recruited, you worked as a general special agent and crime analyst in the Crimes against Children unit. You've always worked pretty closely with the BAU, close enough to know that the unit chief, Agent Hotchner, does not mess around. Or smile.

That was the day you met your best friend, Dr. Spencer Reid; the youngest BAU agent to date. Until you came along. When you got accepted into the Bureau, you were a "Jr." analyst and researcher, at 18 years old. By the time you were recruited to the BAU, you were 22. The reason for your exceptional young age is your exceptional IQ. Like Dr. Reid, you too have an IQ in the 100's, specifically 173. You graduated high school at 13, and managed to secure your PhDs in Pathology, Criminology, and Forensic Psychology by the end of your 2nd year at the Bureau. You and Dr. Reid clicked from the moment you set foot in that infamous bullpen. He was witty, charming, a huge goof, and an absolute dork. Everything you loved and looked for in a good friend. Your first interaction with him was to a stranger, awkward, but to you both, is now a fond memory.

You were excitedly rushing in to get to Hotch's office, when he whipped around a corner seemingly out of nowhere. It was his second week. You ended up getting scalding hot coffee with like 3000 ounces of sugar in it all over your new work shirt, plus your work papers went everywhere. Your Alfred Hitchcock bobblehead also spilled out of your personal box, which led to 10 minutes of gushing over his work and which works of his were your favorites. It was interrupted (rudely, might I add) by Hotch calling you to his office saying "We don't slack off here, Reid and Y/L/N, might I suggest getting to work?"

Fast forward to now, March 21st, 2008. Officially your anniversary and 3rd year in the BAU. The team (Hotch, Rossi, Prentiss, JJ, Reid, Morgan, and of course, Garcia) have dragged you out of your nightly movies and snacks routine to a "bustling" bar for drinks and celebration. Obviously, Garcia had to tell everyone in the bar that "It's her anniversary!!", meaning you got a LOT of free drinks, complementary of all the creepy old men drinking away their loneliness.

About 4 margaritas and 6 shots in, JJ gets an urgent call from- hang on, what? Your hometown of Westford, Massachusetts. Nothing ever happens there. Before we even knew what it was about, we were being hustled out the bar's front entrance by Mother Jennifer.

By the time all of us sat down in the conference room, the drunken state of bliss we were all in slowly but surely morphed into a raging headache. When JJ finally spoke, you were shocked out of your hangover. "We've got a serial killer in Westford, and they want to communicate with you, Y/N."
