The first party of the summer is always the best.

The week was slow and seemed to drag on because Bella and I were anticipating for this night. But we made sure to go to the pool everyday to start working on our tans. And I believe that mine has come along very nicely. I have just enough color that it looks like I am out in the sun all the time but not even close to what I will look like by the end of the summer.

"Does this look okay?" Bella asks walking out of my small closet, just big enough to change in with the door shut.

I look her up and down.

She is wearing dark jean shorts with a colorful belly-shirt that shows off her nice ‘beginning of the summer’ tan that will increase as the months go on. Her wavy-curly brown hair falls over her shoulders and lies just above her chest. Even though she has naturally dark hair, I can see it already starting to lighten from the sun. She is wearing white flip flops and her toes are freshly painted a dark purple that corresponds nicely with her summery outfit.

"Yeah it looks great!" I smile, secretly jealous of her brown hair and dark skin, because it this moment it looks amazing.

"Great, so what are you wearing?" she asks walking over to the mirror nailed to the wall of my bedroom to adjust some of her makeup.

My bedroom is rather small with a queen size bed and one window that shines in the end of the afternoon light.

I jump off of my unmade bed and walk over to my closet to find a cute top to go with the light frayed jean shorts I am wearing right now. I find my white belly tank top, the one with the small pocket off to the side, and change into it.

I stand behind Bella in the mirror as she applies a little more mascara.

"This good?" I ask, surveying myself up and down.

"Perfect!" Bella smiles as she closes up her makeup bag.

I give myself one more look over and focus on my hair. Not wanting to mess with it a ton but, I notice that the normal blonde waves are more curly that wavy tonight so I decide to leave it the way it is.

"Ready?" I ask.

Bella nods with a brilliant smile.

I grab my multi-colored, over the shoulder bag off my door knob and head outside.

When we reach the front door, I can hear the thud of a ball in the driveway. Outside, Michel and five of his friends are playing basketball in our flat driveway.

The garage door is open and I can see movement inside, knowing it is my dad.

I realize that I haven’t seen him all day and decide to say hi to him before we leave for the night.

I make my way under the hoop with Bella following closely behind to so as to not get hit by an uncontrolled basketball.

When we safely reach the edge of the garage, I can see the hood open to my dad’s car and him leaning over it.

Hearing our footsteps, my dad stands up straight from his hunched over position. At first glance, I can see that he is a complete mess, covered with oil and grease.

“Hot dates tonight, girls?” he chuckles.

“I wish!” Bella laughs. I smile to myself.

As he walks towards us, he wipes sweat from his forehead with his wrist but ends up smearing more grease than there was before.

“We are going to the party down at the lake,” I explain. “Since it’s the first one of the summer it will probably go late, is that cool?” I ask, already knowing the answer.
