"I've got them moves like Jagger's" sang Adam Levine . I wanted to make him shut up but the phone kept on ringing "I've got them moo-hoo-hoo-hooves like Jagger" I foreced my self to lift my head off of my ohh-so-soft pillow. I navigated my bedside table so I could shut the damn alarm up. Pressing the side button to hear the time "seven thirty in the morning " said the mechanic voice. I sat up sighing as I got out of bed.
It was probably light now but that didn't matter because it's always dark to me.
Although I didn't enjoy the getting up early I was glad I was . It was the first day of my senior year so I did hope I looked slightly better than usual.
I went to the bathroom five steps to ahead then two strides to the left . I brushed my teeth, shaved and took a shower. I stood in front of what I knew to be the bathroom cabinet trying to imagine how I looked.
Well it's kind of hard to imagine what you look like when you haven't seen yourself in four years. But from what I remember I was quite the looker. Pale blue eyes, tall, tan and with thick sun kissed hair with shades that ranged from the palest blonde to the darkest brown like dark lined wood.
But that was not how I imagined myself now. All I could think of was a pale tall scarecrow with thick ear length rich brown hair and glassy eyes that stared nowhere.
With that happy thought I left to get dressed. I headed to the closet. Two steps to the left from the bathroom door. I browsed through the neatly hung clothes with my hand. My mom labelled them for me with Braille tags. After a short debate it seemed to me that the best option was my drak navy jeans, black shirt , my black Vans , I took my backpack and of course my black round glasses. They were like John Lenon's as my dad described them but completely black and I absolutely loved them because they probably looked really creepy.
After that I took my white cane and headed down stairs.
"Morning Demitri " said mum.
"Morning mum and dad " I replied
"I just don't know how he does it " exclaimed dad with a smile in his voice.
"Dad you move like a dinosaur. If I was blind , deaf and dumb I'd still know you're there" I said taking a seat.
I sensed mum lean in front of me to put my plate of breakfast and give me a kiss on the cheek. I could smell pancakes and mixed berry syrup which was my favourite . It seemed like I was getting special treatment because it was my first day of school. "Demitri dear did you remember to take your new reading pen and headphones"
"Sure mum don't worry" I said patting my bag.
"Well good then. Finish your breakfast and we're set to go"
I wolfed down my pancakes and heared mum kiss dad goodbye, took my white cane and headed for the car.
I got in and we headed straight to school. Mum started giving me a little pep talk.
"Don't worry dear everything is going to be fine . If you need anything you just call. You know I'll be there straight away. And you know Sam's there for you too and-"
"Mum" I said calmly. We'd reached school by now I guessed because the car had stopped.
"Yes dear" she said sounding anxious.
"I've been blind for four years now. I konw how it works. Why are you so worried? "
I asked.
"Ohh I don't know it's just my baby's all grown up and he's a senior now " I could hear tears in her voice.
