"Wow, you're already at hand-holding?  What a playboy, Shawnie."

"Please, Cory, I was at hand-holding yesterday."  The boy put his arm around Cassidy's shoulder while she stood at her locker. She didn't mind, just smiled to herself.

Cory did a face that said, "very nice," while Shawn just had a smirk plastered on.

Cassidy rolled her eyes at the two boys just as the bell rang.

"Come on, home room," she said to Shawn.

"Can't we be a little late?"  He put his face closer to hers.

"No kissing yet," said Cassidy, pulling her face away and walking toward Mr. Turner's door.  He followed her into homeroom.

"Hey, you're further than I would've gotten," said Cory.

"So, where to today, Shawnie?" She emphasized the name Cory had called him earlier.  Shawn didn't seem to notice.

"Well, unless you feel the need to actually do tomorrow's homework —"

"— I don't —"

"— then we're going to the movies."

"You were listening!" Cassidy said.  "When I said I liked the movies!"

"I have a way with girls, what can I say?" Shawn said with a smile, as they walked out of the school and towards the theatre.

"What are we seeing?"

"I hope you like action movies."

"We're seeing an action movie?"

"I chose something exciting so that we could pay attention to the movie instead of making out the whole time," said Shawn.

"Well, that's very thoughtful," said Cassidy, not much knowing how to answer that. "I do like action movies."

Shawn smiled, almost in relief. "Good," he said.

Inside the the theater, Cassidy found herself squeezing Shawns hand every time a character did a particularly large jump, or something suspenseful happened.  By the end of the movie, she was leaning on him, and hugging his arm.  She hadn't noticed what she was doing, but Shawn had been paying attention more to Cassidy then to the movie.  He had smiled every time she got closer.

Once the lights got brighter in the theater and the movie was over, Cassidy loosened her grip and looked at the smile on Shawn's face.

"You knew that would happen, didn't you?" she said.

"Maybe," said Shawn.

"You're tricky," she said, pointing at him.  "And you're lucky you're cute."

"It's good you're good-looking, or I wouldn't last a week."

"Well, that's two days down, so already more than usual," said Cassidy.

"Thank you?" said Shawn, unsure about taking that as a compliment.  Cassidy smiled.

"So, what's going to happen tomorrow?" she asked.

"Kissing?"

Cassidy rolled her eyes. "We'll see."

"Hey, that's not a no!"

Cassidy laughed at his enthusiasm.

Cassidy woke up in the morning for school on Thursday, like usual, to the round of her mother calling her from the kitchen.  She would smell breakfast, and it would usually keep her up.  She would take a shower, do her hair, get dressed, and finally walk into the kitchen for breakfast.  Once she saw the bus through her window, she would hug her mom goodbye and leave.

But today, the buzzer rang before the bus came.

"I'll pick it up," said Cassidy. She walked over to the speaker and held the button to speak downstairs.  "Hello?" she said.  "Who is it?"

"Cassidy?  I wanted to walk you to school," said a familiar voice.

"Shawn?"

"Who is it, honey?" asked her mother.

"It's a friend from school, mom," she said, dropping the button for a moment so Shawn didn't hear.  "Shawn, what are you doing here?" she asked him.

"I told you," he said.  "I'll walk you to school."

"This place is kinda far from school," said Cassidy. "It'll take a while."

"I've been late before."

Cassidy rolled her eyes at his persistence. "Okay," she said.  "I'll meet you down there."  She stopped pressing the button and went to get her bag.

"I'm walking to school today, mom," she said, taking her bag from the table.

"With a friend?"

"Yep," she replied.

"Okay," said her mother.  "Try not to be late."

Cassidy smiled.  "See you soon, mom."

She walked out the door and downstairs to the lobby, where Shawn was waiting.

"I can't believe you came all the way here," she said.

"I'm a charmer," said Shawn, putting his arm around her as they walked out of the door.

"Have you ever done this for any other girls?"

"Well, no," said Shawn, making Cassidy smile.

"So you like me the best?"

"Maybe," said Shawn, not looking her in the eye.

"You're cute," said Cassidy.

Shawn was smiling.

By the time the two of them got to school, the first bell had just rang.  Mr. Turner looked at them as they walked into the class.  Both pretended like they didn't notice.

"Why are you two late?" he asked, looking from Cassidy to Shawn.

"We walked," answered Cassidy. "From my house.  It's a little far from the school."

Mr. Turner thought for a second before accepting her answer.  "I'll take it."

He started teaching, and Cory started talking with Shawn.

When lunch came, Cassidy took her seat next to Shawn at his and Cory's table.  Topanga sat down as well.

"So what are we doing today?" Cassidy asked Shawn.

"I, um, haven't thought of that yet."

"You're running out of ideas?" Cassidy smirked.

"I'm not running out of ideas," said Shawn.  "I just — um — can't think of a really good one."

"Right," said Cassidy.  She turned to speak to Topanga.

"He's been asking Cory for advice on where to bring a girl on a date," smiled Topanga. "He must really like you."

Cassidy smiled at Shawn, who was talking to Cory intensely.

"I can see you really like him, too."

"It's funny, I still don't know much about him.  But he's cute, I like him."

"Maybe you should get to know him.  Where's he taking you today?" Topanga asked.

"Dunno," said Cassidy.  "Pretty sure that's what they're talking about right now."

The girls turned and smiled at the boys, who didn't pay much attention.
