FLASHBACK
Me:Mom?Dad?
I dropped my suitcase at the door before walking in the house,it was quiet way too quiet.
Me:Ntaoleng?
It was eerie as I walked to the kitchen,my heart leapt out of my chest as I looked at the mess, blood everywhere.
Me:Mom?Dad?Nkamulo?Zama?
I couldn't walk any further as I called the police,I explained what was happening.
Me: Ntaoleng.
I looked around for my little sister but she was nowhere.
Me: Ntaoleng!
I was panicking and didn't know what to think. After few minutes the police arrived, they took evidence before taking the bodies.
Detective: You must be?
Me:Kayise Lesenya.
Detective:Where were you?
Me: School,I was suppose to graduate tomorrow.
Detective: According to this, there's one child missing.
Me:My little sister Ntaoleng,I searched the entire house but she's nowhere to be found,I assume she went somewhere.
Detective:Miss Lesenya you are very composed.
Me: That's what they taught me in college,as a police officer you need to be calm and don't act irrational,in case you ruin the evidence.
Detective:Now I know why you look familiar. Who could have done this?
Me:I see my family twice or once a year,so I don't know what was going on here. Someone murdered my parents and brothers and I have no idea.
Now everything came crashing down as I sat there. My entire family was dead.
Voice:Kayise what is going on?
Me: Ntaoleng please sit down.
Ntaoleng:What is going on?
Me:Mom,Dad,Nkululeko and Zama are no more.
Ntaoleng:No!It can't be. They are not dead!Kayise tell me the truth.
Me:I am sorry.
Ntaoleng: Where were you?
Me: I just came back home today.
Ntaoleng: You could have saved them, you are the police aren't you?
Me:I am no superman,I am graduating tomorrow.
Ntaoleng:This is your fault, you should have been here.
Me:Are you serious with me right now?
Ntaoleng: You should have been here.
With that she got up and left. I sighed and rubbed my head. I didn't know what to do,my family was gone.
Detective:I will leave you to it.
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
My sister avoided me every chance she got,our family was rich that was obvious. Sometimes I questioned how they made money but they had companies,,rumours said that they were murdered by a rival gang which was confusing. My parents were pastors very famous pastors,I didn't care much about that except finishing school and become a detective. The funeral was big,a lot of people came but when they were all gone,it was just me and Ntaoleng. My sister was used to getting everything, now she didn't understand how I was controlling everything considering money. She was not getting her usual allowance anymore which caused more fights.
END OF FLASHBACK
Me: Huh?
Sizwe:Are you alright?
I looked at him.
Me:I am fine.
Sizwe: You just zoned out.
Me:I am fine.
Sizwe:I was just asking.
Me: Just because we live in the same house,it doesn't mean that we're friends.
Sizwe:Why is everything to you an argument?
Me:Stop talking man!I have to go to work anyway.
Sizwe: That's what you do best.
Me:Of course.
Sizwe: Yet you can't even be the best detective mother and find our child who was stolen because of you.
That stung.
Me: Because of me how?Did I ask the nanny you found to run off with him?
Sizwe:Justify it all you want, point is simple our son is out there and it is your fault.
I didn't say anything before walking out. We have been married for six years and none of that was a bliss,I married him because I fell pregnant and I wasn't going to raise my child out of wedlock. We were happy,we hired a nanny for Sean since we wanted to send him to daycare at four years. The nanny was chosen by Sizwe,I didn't think much about it until I cane home to no nanny and no Sean. My detective instinct kicked in,I called her but she wasn't picking up only to find the phone inside. Her clothes and Sean's were gone including his food and nappies. It was the most traumatic year, there was no trail no nothing to find them. Then my husband started blaming me for the disappearance as if being a detective meant that I would find everything. Our marriage just went down,we shared separate rooms and we didn't get along. I still asked him why were we not divorced? He would avoid that conversation but I just kept myself busy with work since it was clear that home was a nightmare. My little boy was just two now it has been three years since him and his nanny disappeared and no one know where they went.
