Chapter One
Griffin Slade
“Sierra Hunt?” asked the English teacher; Ms. White, who was checking the role that Monday morning. “Here, Miss” replied a red-haired girl from the back row. It was the start of the second year in high school for Sierra Hunt.
It would be a normal, boring school day for her too, if it weren’t for the fact that she was no normal student of Gallyn-Thorn Valley High School. Sierra possessed a very rare power: she could control the elements... She might have this special power, but she could not tell anyone about her true identity because she feared that if she did, she would be left out, cast away, and rejected. The only people who actually knew about her secret were her parents, and no one else...
Sierra had flaming red, straight hair that went down to her waist. She had rich green eyes that seemed to know all your secrets, even if it was just a very quick eye contact with her. She had olive skin and had a slim, but tough figure. Sierra did look elegant and beautiful, but she seemed to be fierce and intense as well. Sierra knew everyone in her school, absolutely everyone. How could she not, she’d lived in that town her entire life! And because of this reason, she was shocked to see an unfamiliar being sitting right beside her. Newbie, that’s... unusual. Hadn’t had one of them for a very long time... Well, at least not in our year. Wait, has he been there the whole time? I swear I did not see him when I sat down. Sierra thought to herself. “How could I, I don’t really pay attention to anything”. She told herself silently, she smirked at the thought of it.
“Is Griffin Slade here?” Ms. White asked again, apparently not yet finished checking the attendance. “Here” The guy beside her replied in a low voice. “Welcome to Gallyn-Thorn High Mr. Slade.” Ms. White replied nicely with a gentle smile on her face. Griffin? Is that really his name? ... Oh well. Sierra thought to herself again. She looked around the class room, and caught Valerie; the diva of the whole class, who appeared to be checking Griffin out.
Her seat mate, who claims himself as Griffin, had messy dark brown hair, and to Sierra’s surprise, had olive skin too! She hasn’t really seen anyone in her town that olive skin like her. Even her parents didn’t have it.
This guy was broad shouldered and had striking violet eyes which were framed with thick eyelashes. He seemed to be very mysterious; she’d find out what that mystery is sooner or later...
Griffin looked at her straight in the eye, who most probably felt her gaze. He gave her a crooked smile in return for her staring, which sent tingles all over her. That’s odd, that never really happen to me before... She thought to herself. She looked away, ashamed for being caught staring at him.
She could still feel those captivating violet eyes looking at her. “Just. Look. Away, Griffin, or whatever your real name is. What you’re doing is uncomfortable.”She whispered to herself aggressively. Wait, if I felt uncomfortable, he must have felt the same way too! Uh-oh... She worked out, getting a little bit nervous by now.

That English lesson seemed to have taken forever... When the bell finally rang, everyone went rushing out of the room including the teacher. Sierra, who wasn’t done fixing her stuff, was left behind, or at least she thought she was...
“Hi, I’m Griffin. May I ask what your name is?” The guy beside her asked politely. Sierra jumped in shock. “Oh, you’re still here!” she exclaimed.
“Sorry, am I disturbing you from anything?”
“No no, it’s just that I’m so used being last to leave the class that’s all. It’s Sierra by the way, Sierra Hunt. People here call me Erra in short.”
“Okay then. Erra, got it.”
“I don’t mean to be rude, but is your name really Griffin? I was just wondering because I don’t really know anyone with a name so... unique.”
She heard him laugh silently to himself, and replied “Yes, it is. My parents are really in to fantasy stuff so...”
“Oh okay, sorry. I’m just too curious for my own good.” Sierra or Erra, as mentioned, replied mutely with a playful smile spread across her face. “It’s all right. I’m sorry too. I didn’t mean to startle you a while ago by the way: It’s just that I don’t really know where my next class is.” Griffin said; who she could see was blushing in embarrassment. “I could show you where your next class is if you wouldn’t mind.” Erra offered. “I practically know every single room in this school. What do you have next?” She continued. She saw him scanning his schedule. “It says here that I have Music next.” He replied, looking up at her to see what she thought. “Well, you would walk with me then. I’ve got the same class next.” She said blissfully.

“Don’t you have friends to wait for you after classes?” Griffin asked curiously once they were out of the classroom. “I mean you seem to be friendly enough to have some.” He stated. “Well I do have friends, but I don’t really get too close with them.” Sierra answered, dreading the question he might ask afterwards. “Okay, I understand.” Griffin replied casually. She was stunned to hear his reply. Is he actually being serious? Or is he just playing with me? Sierra thought to herself confused. “Honestly. I mean, I don’t really get too close with anyone either. I just don’t want them knowing... all about me, do you know what I mean?” he asked, stopping to turn around and face her. “Yes, you’re completely right.” She replied wide eyed and nodded a few times in approval. “Sorry. I’m just too curious for my own good.” Griffin said, mocking her words.
They walked the rest of the way without anymore conversations; both of them were deep in thought. Is this the person who I could tell my secret to? Can I trust him with it? Sierra thought, receiving new hope and lightening up after seventeen years of worrying and misery.

They sat down next to each other in music, filling each other with more information about themselves. Griffin turned out to be very easy to talk to, more than any other person she knew, including her parents! His personality also turned out to be very similar to hers. This amazed her even more than the first fact.
In music, when it’s the start of the school year, they were allowed to have free instrumental time. So then she and Griffin got their instruments and showed each other what they could do.
Sierra demonstrated to Griffin how she played the piano and sang along with it. Griffin in the other hand proved to be brilliant in playing the guitar but also showed her that he couldn’t sing at all. Both of them cracked up laughing when he started singing. Sierra had hope that she actually gained a friend she could actually trust with her secrets. She also had a feeling that they would one day become very close friends...
Well... hoped you liked it. :) It's not really edited yet so sorry about the mistakes that showed up.
