Felicia's POV

I went home that day in a daze. I sat on my bed and thought.

Somebody, for once in my life, actually stood up for me. I never thought anybody would really care. And out of all people, it was the most popular guy in school that did. Why? He has so many people that want to be his friend so why would he try and help me. I was so confused.

My mom wasn't home from work yet for some reason, so I was incredibly bored. Since I didn't have any homework that day, I didn't have anything to do.

I decided that I wanted some ice cream, so I got up and ran downstairs to the freezer. I rummaged for a bit until finding that we didn't have any. I shrugged into a coat and started walking to the park down the road (which by the way had an mini ice cream shop in it).

When I finally got there, I walked up to the counter.

"Could I have one chocolate ice cream in a bowl please?" I asked the man at the register.

I payed him and he handed me my ice cream. I took it and sat down at one of the tables clustered around the small stand. I savored the cold substance in my mouth and soon became lost in my thoughts again. I jumped when somebody tapped my shoulder and spilled ice cream all down my front.

"Oh I am so sorry. I didn't mean to scare you." A voice from behind me said.

"No it's ok. I was just lost in thought and wasn't paying attention." I said as I started vigorously whiling my shirt. In the end, I just gave up and sipped my jacket up to cover it. I glanced up so I could see the person in front of me, and what I saw surprised me. It was none other than Zach.

"Oh hi" I said somewhat awkwardly.

"Hi!" He answered taking a seat in front of me. "I've never seen you here before. Do you come here often?"

"Umm...sometimes when I have a lot on my mind I will go and get some ice cream. Usually I go here" I responded. "Listen, I want to thank you for sticking up for me today. Nobody has ever done that before."

"Oh...your welcome. Nobody deserves to be treated like that and actually, I'm really upset that Cate would do something be that heartless. Does she do that often?" He asked.

"Well...kinda. It started as soon as I got into highschool." I said. Immediately his eyes darkened and you could tell he was truly upset with his girlfriend.

"I'm sorry." He said simply. "So tell me about yourself."

"Well, I'm 17, My dad died when I was young so it's just me and Mom, I like to sing and play the guitar." I said. "Your turn."

"Well I am 17 also, I have one younger brother and two wonderful parents, and I also play the guitar." He said.

We spent the next 3 hours just sitting and talking. He was very nice and we instantly became friends. Sorta. We did exchange numbers though.

I glanced at my phone. It was 8:00!

"Wow. It's already 8:00" I said. "I'm surprised that my mom hasn't called me yet. I better go."

"Could I walk you home?" He offered.

"Sure" I said.

It wasn't a long walk back to the house and we chatted along the way. When we reached my house I was surprised to find all of the lights were off. She must have had a long day and was taking a nap.

"Do you want to come in for a minute?" I asked as we approached the front door.

"Umm...sure" he said.

We walked in and almost instantly the phone began to ring. I picked it up.

"Hello?" I said.

"Hello. Are you in relation with Mrs. Miller?" the unknown person asked.

"Yea I'm her daughter. Why?" I answered hesitantly.

"I'm sorry to say this but, your mother has been in a severe car wreck and is not expected to live through the night..."
