Ridley watched from the forest, his bright yellow eyes fixated on the security a few yards away. They were merely chatting and laughing, leaving him and Eve completely unnoticed. "Sir!" A guard said through the intercom, "We've located the item. It's in their archives at the back of the ship." "Excellent." Ridley smirked. He looked back at Eve, seeing her fascinated by the greenery around them. Her clawed hand felt the lush moss, a hum escaping her. Ridley couldn't help but stare. Seeing her so... curious, almost innocent looking. It was, dare he say, cute?
"Sir?"
"Hm?" Ridley was snapped back to reality, thanks to the intercom. "The uh... the ship is about to take off." The guard said, confused of his leader's previous silence, "I suggest you find an opening.". "Very well. Are there any you can hack into?" "Already have three, my lord. I suggest you head to the east side. Fewer personnel there." "Good. I'll keep in touch." And with that, the com went silent. He looked back at Eve, who was now beside him, "You ready for this, Eve?" She didn't even glance, "Yes sir."
As expected, when they got in, nobody was there. Eve leaned against the wall, looking for any humans nearby, with Ridley not far behind. Just as she was about to continue onwards, the space dragon grabbed her shoulder, pulling her back. "Sir?! What-" Ridley put a finger to his lips, then wrapped his arms and wings around her as he peeked down the hall. She tried to struggle free, until she saw him change color, instantly blending into the wall! She couldn't help but stare at him, his eyes knitted with concentration as he inspected the hallway for enemies. Soon after, a scientist walked past, not even glancing upon them. Ridley sighed softly, reverting back to his old colors. "H-how did you do that...?" She whispered. The space dragon smirked, his wings freeing her, "I have my ways~." He then blushed when he realized his arms were still wrapped around her waist. Eve noticed this too, grabbing his hands and slightly pushing them to his sides. Ridley cleared his throat, "Uh, well! The device is just down the hall." Eve nodded, still a bit shocked from what he did.
Once there, Eve managed to hack into the panel lock, the sliding doors opening with ease. She began to walk towards the item they needed, but again, Ridley stopped her, putting his arm out. He sniffed the air, as if trying to detect something. He then breathed in, and let out a long cloud of smoke, showing the lasers guarding the item. "Think you can get past?" He asked. Eve scoffed. "Watch me." Within a moment, she flipped through, her agility allowing her to dodge each laser beam with ease. Once she landed safely, she finally got a good look at what he wanted. It appeared to be an old memory card, it's aged and slightly rusted form completed with wires coming out from one side. "Eve!" Ridley whispered harshly, hearing guards patrolling nearby, "Hurry up! We're about to get company!" Within an instant, Eve grabbed the card, but that didn't help their situation. Grabbing it triggered the lasers to deactivate and send out a ship-wide alarm! Just then roughly ten guards showed up, their weapons ready! "FREEZE!" Yelled one of them.
Just then Ridley grabbed her arm and whizzed past the guards! They began to shoot as he flew through the ship, carrying Eve in his arms. "Sir?! What are you doing?" "Getting us out of here!" The space dragon huffed, not noticing the bullets hitting him. Meanwhile, Eve did notice. She saw them penetrate his scaly skin, hearing him grunt in pain, but he kept flying through the halls, all while more guards came and attacked. Ridley then saw the flight deck ahead of them with no one inside, it's doors beginning to close little by little. He seized the opportunity, flying faster than before. After what seemed like an eternity, he flew in, the doors shutting behind them, with his tail unknowingly whipping the door's control panel, breaking it off instantly so the guards couldn't follow them any longer.
Eve forced herself out of his arms. "UGH! I can't believe you!" She barked, turning away from him, "I could've taken out every guard in sight without you interfering! I mean, what were you think-"
She turned around and stopped when she noticed the state he was in. He hand leaned against the wall to support his aching body. He covered his mouth with his hand as he coughed, blood dripping in between his claws. "I-I'm fine!" He groaned, "I'm...-" Within an instant, he fell to the ground unconscious. Eve stared down at him, his blood beginning to coat the cold, hard floor. She then saw the screens above them, showing more guards along with a few scientists scattered in the crowds heading to where the card was once kept. This was her chance! Without a second thought, she rushed past him, banging the wall with her fist twice, somehow instantly opening the doors! She began to head towards them, when she slowly came to a stop. She looked back at Ridley, still unconscious. She wanted to just leave him for dead right then and there, but something told her that it wasn't a good idea.
She did have a deal to keep, after all.
She sighed softly, turning her head back to hall before walking towards Ridley once again. She knelt down and felt for a pulse. Weak, but still there regardless. She caressed his cheek with the back of her fingers, then wiped the blood from his mouth. "Sir?" She whispered, shaking him gently.
No response.
She shook a little harder this time. "Ridley." After not even a moment, he groaned softly as he came to. "Sir. You need to stand." She whispered again. He murmured something softly as he barely opened his eyes. "Come on now." Eve said, wrapping his arm around her shoulders, "I'll help you."
"E-Eve...?" He mumbled, his vision beginning to straighten. Eve shushed him softly as she helped him stand, "Don't worry." She grunted, his weight surprising her, "I saw a hospital wing nearby on the map. We can tend to your injuries there." Ridley looked at her confused as they walked off. Why was she helping him? Despite that, he smiled weakly. "Thanks..." Eve felt herself blush softly under her helmet.
"Of course, sir."
