Amara Longview, 13, sassy, smart, has diabetes and lives in room 23. She and her aunt Josie have lived in the building since she was 4. Why living with her aunt?  Amara's parents both "died" as police and forensics say. Little Amara was stuck at home while her parents were exploring the crime scene at the hotel a few days after "it" happened. Later that day, when they were meant to come home to celebrate Amara's birthday, they never showed up. Grandmother Lola figured they were running late and therefore decided to call the police station. During that call, Lola's eyes filled with tears of sadness. She dropped the phone to the floor, shattering it into pieces. She stood motionless. Amara walked into the room, sad and gloomy, holding her stuffed bear Teddy Clause. Lola unfroze, tears still blinding her eyes, walked over to Amara, gave her a big hug and told her her parents were never coming back. And they never did...

Meanwhile, while Amara has been growing up, looking prettier than ever and feeling as sassy as ever, she developed type 2 diabetes. In case you don't know what that is, type 2 diabetes is caused by you eating too much of a bad diet, contrary to type 1, where you most probably were born with it. And since auntie Josie would hate to lose Amara, as well as her one and only sister. She not only restricts her sugar intake, but she also takes it all away. Little did she know though that Amara had a secret lolly stash in one of her floor pailings; filled with chocolate eclairs, chewy toffees, lollipops, snakes and Wizz fizz.

Back to present day, Amara walks by her old house on the way to school, occasionally stopping by their abandoned house, filled with memories from her childhood. She stares at her once filled with colour and life abode. Her eyes start to well up "mum...dad... why did you leave me?" she whimpers. She waited.. but got no answer. Eventually, she gave up and ran to school. where the most dreadful people on earth were waiting for her.

"Well well well, look wat we got ere" the leader of the terrifying three, Sol hissed

"Please, I don't want any trouble today Sol," Amara said timidly.

"whaddya think boys? give her what she wants?" Sol asked the gang, a mischievous smile planted across his face. The boys shook their heads." listen ere girlie, we'll grant your wish if you do something for us..." Sol

"What do you want now Sol?" Amara sighed, her face full of regret. The boys huddled into a close group, whispering, chuckling and hitting one another. Eventually, after what seemed like an eternity, the boys broke out of their circle and faced Amara.

"You have to tell the closest boy in your calculus A class you like them" spoke Sol.

"fine, whatever, its not like i mean it," She spat at the gang. She turned on her heel, grateful nothing bad came out of their little greeting, and left for english..
