The night sky was clear for the first time in days, it had rained incessantly for the past two weeks. Kenma was somewhat thankful for the break in the freezing winter rain. It meant he could take his switch outside without fear of it getting waterlogged.

Unfortunately though Kenma had a Physiology exam so he had traded his Switch for his Psych books. (Not actually though, you would have to pry Kenma’s Switch out of his cold dead hands.)

Kenma’s evening was going pretty smoothly until he heard the door to the library open behind him. That wouldn’t normally bother Kenma, but as the door closed Kenma felt a surge of electricity shoot through his body, causing him to turn around. His blood suddenly turned cold.

The person that had just entered the library was none other than Shoyo Hinata, Kenma’s ex-boyfriend. Kenma’s mouth went dry at the sight of him. This wasn’t the first time that Kenma had seen Shoyo around college but it was the first time that the two had been alone together since breaking up six weeks ago.

Hinata saw Kenma through the window on the library door, Shoyo swallowed hard to try and shift the lump that had formed in his throat.

He needed to be in the library to work on his Sport and Exercise Science homework that was due in the morning, but was reluctant to confront Kenma. 

Six weeks had passed since Hinata broke up with Kenma and, although he would never admit it, it was one of the hardest things for him to do.

'Come on Hinata,' He spoke in his head. 'You have to man up and go in there. Kenma might not even notice you're there.' 

A confident smile spread across his face. "Yeah," Hinata said aloud. "Like a band-aid, just don't even think about it."

Hinata pushed the door open without a second thought, the smile that had been resting on his face quickly dissipated when Kenma turned to face him.

'Shit,' Hinata thought. 'Well you're here now. Might as well try and break the tension.'

"K-Kenma, h-hey!" Hinata stuttered.

'Smooth, Shoyo, real fucking smooth.' He thought to himself.

Kenma didn't say a word, his face seemed pale, his golden eyes hadn't left Hinata's face since he entered the library.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to disturb you." Shoyo said with a little more confidence.

What was it about Kenma that made him so nervous? It wasn't due to them not speaking since the breakup, no it was more like a longing kind of nervous?

Like all Hinata wanted to do in that moment was drop his rucksack to the ground, run over to Kenma and apologise a thousand times for breaking his heart. And beg the other boy to take him back.

Unfortunately, he couldn't do that. Shoyo had made a choice and he had to be strong to stick by it. No matter how much his heart screamed for Kenma.

“I’ll let you get on with your work, we don’t have to make small talk or anything.” Hinata pulled his eyes away from Kenma’s face, readjusted his backpack and went to settle into a chair. One about three tables behind Kenma, he didn’t want him to feel uncomfortable but he still wanted to be near him, to feel his presence.

Time seemed to slow down dramatically after Hinata entered the room, Kenma found it harder and harder to concentrate. He could feel Shoyo’s gaze burning holes in the back of his head.
