They had met at work during the coldest time of the year, and somehow he thought they could warm his heart. He ended up being named Caspian (he/him), who had fallen madly for the confident Kies (they/them). Kies had cared about the people they worked with and that is what really was the setting stone for Casp, he found someone who cared. In the sick and twisted weed-ridden garden, he had found a rose. His rose. He wanted nothing more than to spend the rest of his days with his rose, being able to laugh and smile and show each other the world. But Kies didn't know that. Kies was completely oblivious to this up until the day that they had gotten together. Through every "<3" and "ily" they thought was platonic it had only come together after rereading the messages again. But of course when they got together they both were the happiest they had ever been. They became practically attached at the hip and went everywhere a tik tok had recommended. Then taking pictures for Instagram and saving it to a personal photo album they had made for each other. Everything was amazing, they were a great support system for about 7 months! It was around the 3-weeks-to-the-8-month mark where it got south. Their communication wasn't as good as it had used to be but that was okay! They still talked in between every heart aching silence that made Kies think they were becoming more of friends then the lovers they once were. Caspian, well he was having his own fun. With new friends from the other unit of the office. While Kies had been disconnecting from their work. Up to the point they had to quit because it became too much all at once. They ended up pursuing a Journalist approach to life. That wasn't without its struggles of course. There were some days where there wasn't anything to write about for days on end. But when something did happen, oh boy. Kies would get at least 8-10 stories out of it a t least. Getting different peoples opinions and perspectives. They actually became a well known writer within their towns community. And would come home to celebrate every new article with Caspian. The celebrations were fun, usually an indoor picnic while reading the, "NORTHERN CHRONICLES" the company Kies posted their stories too. Or a small cake that had the new paper on it in edible paper. IT was always something. But those would be overridden too. They would be replaced little by little with Guy time, or scheduling a party that night with his guys, or just video gaming with them. Kies knew what it felt like. It felt like they were fading father and father apart. But they didn't want that. Caspian had been through the dark spots and the loss and the apathetic times. He didn't leave when Kies didn't feel anything in themselve. Why would Kies leave when they didn't feel much if anything between them two. Please note: It's not all gone, but it only feels like a matter of time. Because the jokes they had once laughed at now just feel like a thought of the past. Every inside joke, every cute date, all of it just feels like the past. But the near past, not too far away but far enough to not be in touch with it. "I don't want to leave." "I can't," Kies argued with themself. It's not that they want to leave, it's that it feels almost painful to stay. They weren't what they used to be. They were the cutest couple that made each other happy. And in no way do I (the writer) want you to think they aren't happy with each other. They can be.
It just isn't the same happiness they had felt in a few months. They decided it was time to actually talk to Caspian and not just themself. "Look, come here please, I can't just keep this to myself. That's not fair to either of us." Caspian stops them, "Are you okay? Your shaking and your shoulders are tense, and babe what's going on?" "I've gone back and forth with myself for a few weeks now. Deciding and over thinking and stressing and analyzing." "Analyzing what-?" "Us." Kies says with a voice that seemed like it had carried this burden of thought up Mount Everest and back twice. "I just need to tell you my side, hopefully you'll share yours and we'll see where we want to go from there." Caspian agrees with the fearful thought of this being the end. The end they had worried about for 8 months. The end of him and his rose. "Look no matter what happens or what is shared here, I will always love you Kies." "DAMNIT",they yelled internally. That was exactly what Kies was afraid of. Caspian ended up still loving them, even though it felt like his love for them had left his soul a month ago. "Okay, it feels like you and I have been growing apart. Our communication is not the same. It hasn't been. Nothing is the same. I know we aren't who we were when we first started dating. And that's okay. We've grown. Unfortunately, we grew apart." Kies says choking on the words they feared having to say. "I can hear your heart shivering." Caspian says. "But look if you want this to be done then just say the words. Moving on won't be easy but if it's what you want I'll let it happen." Thank you for the memories and the experience. I love you darling." Kies looks at Caspian the way they did when they first met. But this time it was upside down and tears were flowing down Keis' face. This was the Goodbye they never wanted to experience. It was a goodbye from their first love. Their best friend. And at one point and another, their everything. "Maybe in this life we weren't a success but you never know about the next." Kies says. "Fuck I'm gonna miss your supernatural bullshit and even your astral ass shit." Caspian says as he knows this is the ending of an era. The ending of the best era of his life. Keis decides that because they broke up with Caspian that they would sleep on the couch. And Caspian would get the queen size mattress that they once shared. It was that exact night that all the memories they had ever made flooded back to him like the Liturgy Bay tsunami. And for a few split seconds he saw the time leading to the demise of the relationship. He saw Kies consistently trying to reach out but almost every attempt failed ending with Kies going into the room and writing. "Fuck, who did I just lose?" He asks himself almost all night up to sunrise. The next afternoon Kies helped Caspian move out. And maybe the relationship will end but the memories between the two will never will. They are the thing that keeps Kies and Caspian as an infinity and beyond.
