Gaudeo in immānitātem.
The family motto. The words that unite my family under one ideology. Though, just what that ideology meant, we couldn't quite agree. You see, when Tiberius Nott implemented it, back in 1422, he assumed that his family would know how to translate the phrase; forgetting that it could be interpreted into two separate meanings. He had then passed of the plague before elaborating the motto's true meaning, and the family has been divided ever since.
My father translates the motto as: I rejoice in the savagery. Father, sees the world as a dark unforgiving place, and one's only hope for survival is to embrace the wickedness wholeheartedly. To plunge headfirst into the savagery of men and find comfort in the darkness.
The other, less violent, interpretation is: I rejoice in the vastness. That's how my Uncle Thaddeus saw it. He said that the world is wide, and ready to be explored. Ours for the taking.
As for me? It took a very long time for me to come to terms with my own interpretation of our motto.
This is my story, detailing just how exactly I became the man I am today.
Gaudeo in immānitātem, indeed.
