I guess you could say my life was pretty close to perfect until about 2 months ago when my parents decided to get a divorce. That was probably the worst day of my life. I remember it just like it was yesterday..

*Flashback*

I walked into the house after going for a run and my parents were sitting on a chair at the dinner table. They were sitting in seats directly across from each other and both turned to face me when I walked in. When they asked me join them my stomach dropped. I didn't know what was going to happen.

When I sat down they both took in a huge breath and I started biting my nails, something I do when I'm nervous. But it was when they started to speak I couldn't believe it. "Lexi honey, me and your father have been talking quite a bit and we just find that things would be better if we got a divorce. It's not your fault at all honey. Things just aren't the same as they used to be. We're not as happy as we used to be. We still love you so much." I just sat there with my mouth wide open.

I ran upstairs to my room and started crying. I couldn't believe what had just happened. It all wasn't sinking in. We were the perfect family. Everyone wanted to be us and be as happy as we were, and now? I didn't even know what we were now. I sat there in the corner of my room crying. I had no friends to call since I lost touch with them all when I left California. It was in this moment that I noticed how alone I was.

I walked into my bathroom and went for a shower to see if it would calm me down but it didn't. I saw the razors that I use to shave and they did look tempting. Nobody would care if I left. I knew I could never do it though. I would hurt myself too much and I couldn't bare living with myself like that. People would judge me if they saw cuts on me.

I got out of the shower and just decided to sleep it off. I didn't even eat dinner.

*Flashback ends*

My mom and I live together in a house in Omaha seeing my dad didn't want anything to do with me anymore. He tried to fight to share time with me but he gave up and didn't care. I always wonder where he went but if he doesn't want anything to do with me, I'm not going to bother wasting my time on him.

My mom works a lot to try and keep enough money to pay for food and the house and everything. She's only home late at night.

I was pulled out of my thoughts when my mom walked in from work. She was carrying groceries so she could make dinner. I went and helped her and put everything on the table. She started pulling everything out and started making dinner. Usually I just make it myself but tonight she decided she wanted to. "Oh shoot. Lexi can you please run to the store for me? I forgot the butter." She says. I nod and grab some money and the keys to my car and head out.

I love driving. I love turning on my own music and being alone. It's so relaxing to me and I have no idea why. I finally turn on the car and head to the grocery store.

As I arrive it isn't busy at all. There is only a few other cars and I'm guessing they are all just workers. I walk in and head straight to the back of the store where all the dairy products are. I go to grab the butter when I hear the chime of the front door open and a few boys making a lot of noise. I grab it quick so the boys don't see me. I go to turn the corner so the boys don't see me but then I bump into someone and fall over. It hurt quite a bit but I get up dusting my butt off. When I look up I figure it must be one of the boys who walked in. He had dark brown hair that stupid up but was pushed to the side. He was wearing a black t-shirt and black jeans. He was pretty attractive if I don't say so myself.

"I'm so sorry I didn't see you coming around the corner." He says sympathetically. "Oh no it's fine I should have been looking where I was going." I say back. He smiles and man he has the nicest white teeth I have ever seen. "Hey I haven't seen you around before, you new to the area?" He asks me. "Nah I've been here for about a year. Just don't really get out much." I say smiling and hoping that I don't sound like too much of a loser. "Oh cool! By the way I didn't get your name?" "I'm Alexis but most people call me Lexi" I say proudly. This might be the first friend you make here act calm and cool, calm and cool. "Nice to meet you Lexi, I'm Jack. I better get going my friends are probably looking for me, I'll see you around? Maybe we can hang out sometime?" He says. "Year sure sounds good! Here I'll give you my number." I say and he hands me his phone. I type in my number and my name and hand him back his phone. He smiles and waves and runs back off to his friends.

I grab the butter and go to the checkout and pay and head out the door. I couldn't stop smiling. He was pretty nice but that was probably the worst way to meet him.

I got home and handed mom the butter. She thanked me and I headed upstairs to my room. I put on some music and sung along a bit while I checked through my phone. I scrolled through my Instagram and found my old friends from Cali all posting pictures together. I did miss them but I feel like Omaha was a better place for my family. I was pulled out of my thoughts about Cali when my phone vibrated.

*Hey! It's Jack. Sorry I didn't text you any earlier, my phone died while we were out and I just got home and plugged it in. How are you?*

*Its all good :) and I'm doing good how are you?*

*I'm good! Hey I actually gotta run I'm going out for dinner with my parents but maybe tomorrow we could hang out?*

*Yeah that sounds good!*

*Okay I'll come pick you up around 12 and we can go out for lunch or something so just text me your address before then! Seeya :)*

I was so excited. I've finally made a friend here. I've been fine without them because I like to read and take photos so I find stuff to do to make time pass. Just on cue my mom calls me for dinner and I head down to eat.

"So honey how was your day?" She asks me. The typical thing a mom would ask after a long day. "It was pretty good actually. Didn't really do much until I went to the grocery store. I met a friend today. His name is Jack. Is it okay if I go for lunch with him tomorrow?" I ask. Hopefully she doesn't think he's creepy. "Yes of course honey! I'm going to be working until about 9 tomorrow night so I won't be home for dinner. Sorry." She says sadly. She tries so hard to always keep us with lots of money. "Okay thanks mom!"

We finish up dinner and I clean up and head upstairs. I decide to watch a movie and drift off to sleep hoping that tomorrow is a good day.
