twenty-four
'You two are so lucky you got turned at such a young age.'
"So what? She just showed up a last night for no reason? How convenient." Peyton said dryly with his arms crossed in front of his chest.
"My god, Peyton, for the hundredth time, I did not set up my own boyfriend to be kidnapped!" I shouted.
We both stood behind a one way mirror, looking in on an isolated cell that the Gage's had underneath their mansion. I'm not sure why they had this or how many times they would've used this before I met them, but I was happy they already had it.
Cameron gazed at the ceiling, bored.
"You know what? Why don't we go inside and ask her about it?" He motioned towards the door and smiled cockily.
I brushed past him, stopping in front of the door, "Maybe I will,"
As I pushed the door open, Cameron sat up straight the the cold metal bed. "How long until you leave to go find your new boyfriend?"
"Jealous?" I coped before pulling a wooden chair for me to sit on. I could tell how crazy she must feel as of now. The cement walls had bolts every few inches. The only thing I could imagine doing in here was counting them or sleeping.
"Of your lover boy?" She scoffed, "C'mon Maddy, you and I both know you could do better."
Cameron was the same self-absorbed narcissist. She always believe what belonged to me, belonged to her, and if you ever said no? She'd do it anyway.
"I think we both know that anyone is better than being with you." I spat back like there were poison in my words, ready to burn off that stupid like smirk of hers.
She didn't respond. Instead. she pressed her lips together and looked at me with a pressed frown. She was doing the thing where she'd force herself to cry — it was a hidden talent of hers. At first, I thought it was amazing. She used it to her advantage to get us into clubs and bars when we were in highschool. It was fun until she started using it manipulate me.
"You can't just leave me in here, Mads." She sighed with gloomy eyes. "Look, I know I messed up but please, just give me a chance, I know I can do better. I'm trying! It's been so —" Her voice began to crack and the tears she'd built up fell from their cage behind her eyes. "It's been so hard since you left."
Maybe she wasn't lying. Maybe I had really broken her heart by leaving. Maybe she was just an innocent girl who truly didn't know any other way to keep me other than following me across the world. A twang of guilt struck me and I slowly stood up to stand in front of her bed. "I'm so sorry, Cameron, if I would've known that—"
