The last night

The tents were set the bonfire was started. The eight of us sat in a circle around the fire some of us rubbing our hands against each other to create some of us roasting the marshmallows. We had been here since evening and the temperature had gradually created a mist around us.

The drop in temperature was expected seeing as each one of us bought our jackets. The mountain we were on was at a high altitude resulting in a dark atmosphere surrounding it. The soft hue of the sun's last rays helped us with the last preparations for the night.

Today all eight of us had planned to camp before we graduated from high school and went off to different places. It would be our last trip together and we planned to make it the most memorable one. There was a weight on my chest that I couldn't shake off it made me want to still this moment and live in it forever.

As sudden silence took over us, Asher whispered in a low tone as smoke escaped his lips due to the cold temperature. "Guys stop making me feel we are in Mr. Franks's class,"

We let out a small laugh at remembering how he always wanted pin-drop silence in his classes which was never possible with us.

"Man I heard he left the school," Kyle mumbled while rubbing his gloved hands together to create some warmth.

"Aww he liked us so much that left as soon as we did," Alaska said, sarcasm dripping from her tone. She never liked his classes and that was a fact we all knew.

"Shut up London, whatever it is our juniors are gonna miss his classes, he was a good teacher," Beth said rolling her eyes.

One thing was sure; we were never and I mean NEVER gonna call Alaska by her actual name even if it means we remember every city in the entire world.

"Exactly that's true! I loved his new day new fact scheme. I learned everything about astronomy because of him" Kyle said popping a marshmallow into his mouth.

"Well that reminds me Nasa is going to send Salacia satellite to Neptune"  Grabbing a marshmallow, I waited for them to get it.

Asher spit out the water he was drinking, Kyle let out a choked laugh because of the marshmallow, while Beth and Alaska gasped, Arden and Emily wheezed out laughing.

"No way!" Ivan exclaimed a look of pure disbelief on his face.

"Yes way" I smirked, snickering at their reactions.

"Well that's interesting and cool" Emily spoke, taking out a box full of cupcakes.

"Oh yum pass me those cupcakes" Beth reached out to Emily before passing them to Kyle

"Did you bake them?" Kyle asked moaned biting into it.

"No Octavia did" Emily spoke passing them.

Octavia, Emily's sister was an amazing chef and best at baking, her cupcakes were world-famous.

"Seriously!? Man the last time we ate cupcakes baked by her was on Arden's birthday
wait remember on his birthday we decided on a theme and dressed according to it and Ivan thought its a fancy dress competition and came in a Superman suit?"

"Heyy In my defense I was 10! "Ivan exclaimed shrugging lifting his hands in a surrendering position.

I leaned over to grab a cupcake before everyone finishes them only to knock over Asher's water bottle which then spilled on him.

A look of pure horror took over my face as a small gasp escaped my lips.

"Damnit I am so sorry, I swear it was an accident" I repeatedly apologized while Asher was in a frozen state or at least that's what it looked like.

Accidents such as this only meant one thing and that was-

"An eye for an eye, now water for water" Asher seemed to come out of his frozen state "You already know what it means so get ready for-"

"Water fight!" Kyle cut him off as he grabbed his water bottle.

The next thing I knew was we were drenched in water, shivering due to the freezing temperature.

"Please tell me I didn't catch a cold" Beth sneezed "Gosh I can't go to the university admissions with a running nose tomorrow" She groaned out.

"Have a water fight they said, it will be fun they said" Alaska sighed passing Beth a tissue paper.

"Wait they have started the admissions already?"  Ivan asked, with a confused look.

"I think you keep forgetting that college is in like two months" Arden placed a hand on Ivan's shoulder giving him a pat in the process.

Everyone remained silent as we got lost in our own thoughts.

A thick layer of tension raised as silence fell over us once again. Suddenly the thought of going to college wasn't so exciting. It would mean that we have to leave each other and somehow that alone made me nervous. we had been together for years and to say that we would miss each other would be an understatement, we had this homely aura around that we might not get when we go out.

Soon we would be in college soon, and we won't meet every day, yeah we are surely going to call or text but that won't be the same and who knows some of us will move out of here. But that didn't matter for now we are all together that's what mattered the most.

But that didn't ruin our night, we all had agreed on making the most of tonight and there was nothing that would stop us from doing so, hence we rode down the memory lane, rejoicing the most iconic ones.

Song after song changed and we danced; Made those quirky jokes remembered all those embarrassing moments, roasted each other, and had a mini water fight even in this freezing temperature.

As the night passed we fell more in love with it. This was our home, our safe heaven and no matter what tomorrow would bring to us we would always return to each other.

This was our world; Our whole new world.

"I think of the night in the park, It was getting dark

And we stayed up for hours,

What a time, what a time, what a time."
