Chapter 1

It all started on a normal day, or maybe not completely normal, it was the first day of summer vacation. We had just finished 8th garde and had long ago planned that we would go on a trip together in the summer. We would be without parents and would go to Theo's cottage in Spain.

"Come on Dalia!" It was Alex who shouted at me.

"Hold on, I'll just put the shirt back on the hanger"

We were in town to buy new clothes for the trip. Usually I'm not a shopper, I hate to try on clothes in stores, but now I needed some new summer clothes because my clothing style had changed so much in recent months.

Before I wore anything, yellow t-shirts with sequins, pink pants with stars on, black shoes with black glitter on the sides and yes, I even wore a silvery shiny school bag. Nowadays I wear mostly black, gray and white clothes, a lot of jeans with holes and oversized t-shirts. But yes, back to the story.

I decided to buy a pair of short denim shorts with holes in the pockets and a worn texture. I also bought a black t-shirt that said "Queen".

After that we finally made it to the checkout to pay.

"It will be 75 €" said the young woman at the checkout. 75!? I thought to myself. Oh no! I had missread the price tag. I had promised my mom not to spend more than 60 € on clothes. What should I do now?

"Hello? Dalia? "

I looked up and Alex looked at me strangely, "Are you going to pay for that?"

"Mhm!" I replied, taking my card out of my pocket. I guess I would have to come up with something to say to my mother.

"What were you thinking about?" Benjamin asked when we were walking out of the store.

"What do you mean?"

"When you had to pay, you looked worried, is something wrong?" I don't understand how Benjamin notices such things. Like he knew how I felt, he's always been that way.

"No, but mom said I could only buy clothes for 60 € and I just paid 75 for this." I said holding up the bag with my new clothes in it.

"Oh"

"But you can say you lent me money," Theo said.

"Well, I'll probably come up with something better, but thanks anyway!" I giggled.

"Yes, okay, but now I want something sweet. So I'll go and buy candy!" We all laughed. Alex is always hungry for some candy!

As the clock approached eleven, my phone rang.

"Hello?"

"Hi Dalia, you can head home now." It was my mother who called.

Why was she always like this? I was always the one to go home first and usually she called right when we were starting to have fun.

"I have to go now, bye boys!" I said sadly.

"Already?" Alex wondered

"Yeah, my mom just called."

"Well thats kinda sad" Theo said.

"I know! But you know my mom, she always wants what's best for me, or at least that's what she says"

"yeah we know" Benjamin assured, "Bye!"

"See you guys tomorrow?" I said while walking backwards to my bike.

"Ofcourse!"
