She watched as the day quickly turned into night,
the clear blue skies turning into star filled ones,
the roads not as busy as during the day. ‘Most of
them must be going back to their loved ones’ she
thought to herself as she watched the traffic exit
the central part of town from her apartment
building. She held the glass of wine close to her
lips and traced her lips at the top of the glass
thinking of how it felt to have a loved one close
by. She was a busy woman, too busy to sustain
a relationship. She was all work and had no time
to accommodate another person or have enough
time to consider another’s emotions, she was
about the courtroom and that’s all she knew.
‘That’s my boyfriend’ she would jokingly refer to
the courtroom. But in some way it was indeed the
only love affair she had, it’s only in the courtroom
that she felt a rush, that she felt her neck hair
stand with excitement, it’s in the courtroom that
she felt her heartbeat change…. But once a while
she would wonder how another humans touch
would feel on her body, how would her body react
to being hugged in an affectionate manner… not
the hugs she got from her clients after winning a
case, one in which she would feel safe and loved,
one in which she would feel wanted and
cherished. All these were just thoughts, she
wouldn’t get that satisfaction, she did not have
the time, she did not see any man worth her time
or intellect level, all of them would be intimidated
by her anyway so why waste her time trying to
love and be loved when she could advance her
career.
She was startled out of her thoughts when she
heard the doorbell ring. Irritated at who it would
be that would be knocking at this time of the
night. She slowly walked towards the door and
yelled, ‘Am coming! I have heard the damn
doorbell for crying out loud! Would you calm
yourself?’
‘Who is it?’ she inquired
‘Open the door before I remind you why I was
born 5minutes before you’
‘Oh my God! Jake is that you?’
‘Can you open the door and find out you damn
retard’
