I left my heart in that green field
Under cloudless sky
I was innocent and young
Never asking why
We ran all day through the grass
And down the sloping hill
Though it was many years ago
I remember still
The way we laughed
The way we fell
But just how much
I couldn't tell

I left my heart in that strange lake
Under summer sun
We were older then
The days of chasing done
The crystal waters swirled
Shifting warm to cold
And in their indecisive mass

Laughing freely
Smiling wide
From this love

I left my heart in that small room
Under plaster ceiling
The passion in my voice
I did not try concealing
As I sang of life and love
You heard me through the wall
I'd climbed so very high
not prepared for the fall
So vividly
So fast
Imprinting on
A gray-blue past

I left my heart on that threshold
Where you said goodbye
The last I've ever seen of you
Under star filled sky
The pieces of my summer heart
Scattered on the street
And melted in the yellow rays
Of the summer's heat
