M.J. and Kate have been friends for a while now. What happens when they start to catch feelings?
M.J.'s POV
Tonight, I'm sleeping over at my best friend, Kate's house. I'll never get over how cool it is. Right now we're sitting on the couch, binge-watching Disney movies. We're on Frozen now.
"Oh please skip this part." I beg, when Let It Go starts playing.
"Nooooooo, I like this song!" Kate whines. She begins to sing along.
"Dear god, stop!" I laugh, throwing a popcorn kernel at her.
"A kingdom of isolation, and it looks like, I'm the queeeen!" She sings loudly.
I giggle. I've felt these weird sensations when I'm around Kate. Like I'm going to puke, but warmer, and kind of fluttery. Is this what love feels like? I've never felt anything like that before. But she'd never feel the same, right?
Later, we're in a more relaxed position, curled up on the couch. Now we're watching Luca. "Aww, they're adorable." Kate remarks.
"Yeah, they are." I agree.
"They kinda remind me of you and me." She says.
I almost fall off the couch. "Um, in what way?" I squeak.
"You know, spending all their time together, wanting to travel the world and spend their lives together..." She trails off.
I suddenly feel excited. She wants to spend the rest of her life with me? I smile. "Yeah, when you put it that way, I guess so."
"Yeah, and one of the friends gets jealous way too easily." Kate teases, nudging me.
"Hey!" I say. "I don't get jealous."
"Yeah, you do." Kate giggles.
"Hey." I whisper.
"Yeah?" She asks.
I sit up. "Can I ask you something?"
Kate sits up too. "Sure, what's up?"
"You said you wanna spend the rest of your life with me? Is that true?" I ask, suddenly getting nervous.
"Of course, M.J. You're my best friend." Kate says, smiling.
"Oh..." I bite my lip.
"Hey... What's up?" She asks.
"It's just..." I just need to say it. "What if I wanna be more than friends?"
Kate looks surprised. "More than friends?"
I sigh. "Yeah, it's stupid, I know. Sorry, let's just keep watching." I feel like crying. Sure, I act like nothing bothers me, but this really hurts.
"No, it's not stupid. I do wanna be more than friends." Kate says. I look up, shocked.
"You're serious?" I ask.
"Yeah..." She takes my hand. "I really like you, M.J."
"I really, really like you too, Kate." I say, growing excited. Then, before I change my mind, I kiss her. She kisses back.
"So..." She says when we pull apart. "Wanna go out?"
I laugh. "Duh, loser." I kiss her again.
"I knew it!" A voice says.
"You owe me fifty bucks, Tony."
