"Goodnight Ruby." I said from her door. Even though it was 2:00 PM, she just got a break from her exhausting job. She mumbled the response and I left for my shift at the Flower Shop. I was the manager of "Flowers or Magic". I didn't just run a flower shop, the shop was connected to a Mediums office. She didn't work for me but I paid her for helping me additionally.
"Hey, Brooke." I greeted my friend. "Hey babes, I left a coffee in the fridge for you. Cora is coming later to pick up the arrangement her mum ordered." She said smiling and collecting her things. "Okay, thanks. Bye, love you." I kissed her cheek. "Bye..say hi to your fine-ass roommate for me by the way." She smiled and left. I sat at the front desk after making sure everything was in order in the back. I love Brooke but sometimes she forgets to do stuff.
"Excuse me?" A woman asked. I looked up from my computer and seen a tall masculine woman with tattoos and a strong jawline. "Hello, what can I get you today?" I asked smiling. "A bouquet of roses." She smiled back. "I see..first date or anniversary?" I asked standing up and walking her over to the bouquet section. "First date." She fidgeted awkwardly. "Here..it's a light red color. It'll show that lucky someone that you're trying to impress them but you're not trying too hard. Do you want to write a custom card..or?" I asked reading the card on the bouquet.
"What does that one say?" She asked. "Amor Vincit Omnia..love conquers all things." I whispered. "I'll take that one.. " She smiled down at me. "Perfect, cash or credit?" I smiled. "Credit." She said. "16.45, do you have an account or would you like to open on with us?" I smiled. "Neither thanks." She smiled. "Okay, there you go. Have a nice day and good luck tonight. She'll love them." I smiled. "How'd you know it was a she?" She smiled. I raised an eyebrow, "I'm not an idiot. Plus I can spot someone who's like me from a mile away." I laughed. "Thanks...Summer." She paused to read my name tag. I nodded and waved.
//after work//
Ruby was in her room listening to music with her door open. She saw me walk in and turned her music down. "Hey, how was work?" She smiled. "Interesting, how was your sleep?" I asked putting my purse on the coat rack. "Good, I have to do an interview tomorrow though." She frowned. "Well, sucks to be famous I guess." I laughed and grabbed water. She rolled her eyes and walked over to me. "Do we have any more of the vegan pizza?" She asked. "I dunno, I'm struggling with work so I haven't gone grocery shopping." I sighed and ran my fingers through my hair. "We can do it this week. I have the week off for Valentine's Day." She smiled. "Wait actually?" I laughed. She nodded and looked in the fridge. "Okay, I have a party to go to tonight. It's at my exes house. Brooke wanted to go and I couldn't say no." I rolled my eyes. "You want me to go with you?" She laughed. "Please?" I asked smiling.
She nodded and laughed. "Thank you!" I smiled, kissed her cheek, and ran to my room. I picked out my clothes and smiled at the finished product.
I hung the dress on my door and grabbed my towel. I decided to take a quick shower since I had other stuff to do.After my shower, I changed into a pair of jeans and walked around in my bra. Ruby walked out of her room and smiled. "Hey, what are you wearing to the party?" She asked. "It's hanging in my door. " I pointed to my room. She walked in and walked out. "That's a bit much for just a regular house party." She laughed. "It's not a regular house party. It's a formal gathering with my ex and his new girlfriend." I smiled. "Why didn't you tell me?" She laughed. "Because you wouldn't have gone with me.." I pouted. "Whatever, when are we leaving?" She asked. "7:00, it starts at 6:45." I smiled and walked back into my room. It was 5:37 so I had a while.
I decided to look at the security cameras of the store to check if everything was alright. Nothing alarming so I listened to music in my headphones and fell asleep. "Summer, wake up! It's 7:15." Ruby yelled. I stood up and put my dress on and brushed my hair after curling it. I slipped my heels on and walked out. "I have to do my makeup." I rolled my eyes. "Hurry up, please." She rolled her eyes. Ruby looked stunning as always but something was different.
Ruby was wearing this and sitting at the kitchen island. I walked out with makeup on and grabbed my keys. "I'm driving." She smiled. "Your the best." I smiled back at her. We got into her car and I told her the address. "I know where that is. I DJed at a club near there." She pulled off.
We arrived at the house and Ruby got out, walked over to my side, and opened the door. "Thanks, Ruby. I'm gonna be honest, I might break one or maybe both of my ankles by the end of tonight." I laughed. "Don't worry, I got you." She smiled. I nodded and we entered. "Hey, babes. You brought your roommate?" Brooke asked pointing to Ruby. "No, I brought Casper the ghost. I obviously had Ruby come with me." I rolled my eyes. "Shut up, Cameron is up there with Grant." She pointed and walked away. "Ready?" Ruby asked smiling. "No but whatever." I said as we walked over to Cameron and Grant. "Hey, Cam. Nice seeing you Grant." I said shaking their hands. "Hey, who's this?" Cameron asked pointing to Ruby. "I'm her roommate. And her date." Ruby shook their hands and didn't say a word after that. "Thanks for letting us come." I walked away, still arm and arm with Ruby.
"What was up with you back there?" I asked. "I don't like the way he looks at you." She mumbled. "That's so cute." I smiled. "Be quiet.." She said grabbing a cup and filling it with water. "When are we leaving?" She asked. "Whenever you want." I smiled. "I have to meet with my stylist at 8:45. Do you want me to leave you here or do you wanna go back home?" She asked scrolling on her phone. "I'll go back home. We leave at 8:00." I said standing up.
"Where are you going?" She asked. "I'm gonna go dance...do you wanna dance with me?" I asked smiling. "Sure, let's go." She smiled and grabbed my hand. I saw a flash in the corner of my eye, paparazzi. "Damn it. Come on, where's the backdoor?" Ruby asked guiding me through people. "Right there." I pointed, we ran to the backdoor and exited. "My car is out front. Why don't we just walk together and answer their questions?" She asked. "I have a fear of cameras. Everything they ask me will be on the internet." I said out of breath. She grabbed my hand and walked with me. "Keep your head high, I'm right here." She smiled. "Ruby, who is this?" Ag guy asked. "This is my roommate." She replied. "What's your name, why are you here with her?" A woman asked taking pictures. "My name is Summer, I'm here with her because I didn't want to go to my exes' house alone. We're just friends." I answered with a straight face. "Is this true Ruby?" The reporter asked. "Yes, everything she said is true. Nothing romantic is going on and will ever go on between us." She said unlocking her car. "That's enough, please." Ruby said as she opened my door and helped me get into the car. They took pictures of her helping me into the car and of us leaving.
"It's 7:58 so I can drop you off at home." She said in a monotone voice. I was upset for some reason, when she said that nothing is ever gonna happen my eyes started to water. "That's fine." I said quietly. She pulled up and unlocked the car. "See you later..have fun." I said and got out. "Wait, get back in the car for a second." She said through the window. I got back into the car and looked at her confused.
She got out and opened my door for me. "There you go. See you later, Summer." She said and she waited until I walked inside to leave.
