As I had expected, Eros was furious that I married Zack. He didn’t say much, though; only gave me a disappointed shake of his head and a quiet sigh. I guessed he didn’t burst into yelling and accusations since he had Iris in his lap, and she would make him shut up if he raised his voice. She had a knack for keeping him quiet, and I appreciated that skill she quickly attained.

I was called down for cleanup duty the morning after my marriage, and during a much-needed snuggling session. Zack was distraught that he couldn’t come with me after spending six months away from me, and since I had to go clean up toxic chemicals, despite the fact that I was invincible.

Zack walked me to the portal and pecked my lips multiple times before letting me go through the portal. “I love you; be safe, my love.”

“I love you, too, Zack,” I kissed his cheek. “You stay out of trouble. Don’t go picking fights with Eros, okay?” He nodded. I left with the vampires and Sin for Heaven.

The world was clouded in shades of yellow and green, and Sin groaned. “How the hell do we clean this up?!”

“I don’t know, Mr. Science Man,” I rolled my eyes. “How do we clean this up?” Sin frowned, rubbing his chin before gasping.

He ordered the vampires around and finally looked at me, “Can you get me some dragon scales?” I nodded, remembering there were some stored in the Archives. “I’ll need dragon scales.”

“Yeah, no shit,” I laughed and headed for the Archives. The building was silent, and I shuddered upon entering. The soft echoes of faded memories bounced off the bookshelves, and I swear I saw Gabriel sitting at one of the desks, skimming through the pages of a well-liked book.

I gulped, shaking out my head and hurrying downstairs. I gulped again as goosebumps rose on my arms. Clutching the ring on my left hand, I counted to ten. And when that didn’t make the paralyzing feeling go away, I held the necklace Zack got me for my seventeenth birthday between my fingers and took the slowest breaths I could.

There was a gentle voice behind me, “Treble?”

I shrieked, turning around like someone poked me with a hot-iron rod. Sin raised an eyebrow at me. “I’m okay. Just…I haven’t been in here since the war. Since Gabe died.”

“Oh,” Sin descended the stairs and pulled me into a hug. “You can go back out; I’ll get the scales.”

“I can handle it, Sin,” I nodded. “I swear. I’ll be fine.”

Sin sighed, letting go of me. “I’m staying down here until you get them. Just in case.” I rolled my eyes with a soft huff before turning to the almost bare countertops and shelves. In a small jar sat the dragon-scales and I grabbed them quickly. I placed them in Sin’s hand.

“Told you,” I chuckled, hurrying up the stairs. “I should’ve put money on that.”

“No you should not have. Not with your well-to-do husband,” Sin groaned. “You do realize you’re eighteen, right?”

“I’m halfway to nineteen,” I shrugged. “And I’m immortal, dumbass. What does it matter if I get married yesterday or twenty-five years from now?”

Sin was quiet as we thankfully left the building. “I don’t know. It’s just weird.”

“You’re just weird,” I retorted with a giggle. The vampires had gathered near the fountain with small jars and boxes in their hands. Sin examined all of them before dumping everything out into the fountain. “You know that’s holy water…right?” I chuckled.

Sin stopped, raising an eyebrow at me in a soft smirk, “I am God,” he winked. “Of course I know it’s holy water.”

“Just making sure,” I held up my hands. “God.”
