Jake's POV

The phone started ringing almost as soon as we walked into her house. She ran to answer it and I followed.

"Hello?" She said. "Yes, I'm her daughter. Why?"

Her eyes widened in fear. The phone slipped out of her hand and fell to the floor, causing the backing to PPP off and the battery to come out. Then, she started sobbing. I ran over to her and wrapped her in a hug. I know that I didn't know her for that long but at least I could be a friend.

"What happened, Felicia?" I asked with concern evident in my voice.

"Mom...accident...hospital." She said between sobs as she attempted to tell me what was going on.

I got the message though. "Where are the keys to your car?" I said and she pointed over to the counter. "C'mon. I'm taking you to go see your mom." I told her. She nodded and I led her to her car.

Felicia's POV

I sat down on the passenger side of my car as Jame got into the driver's seat. I managed to calm myself down a bit on the ride there. I just sat there with a dazed look on my face.

All I could think about was my mom. She couldn't die. It just couldn't happen. She had to get better. What would I ever do without her? I would have to get a full-time job but even then, where would I live? My mom is the only thing I've got left in this world? Why is she being taken away?

We had barely stopped the car when I hopped out and ran into the hospital. I ran up to the front desk.

"Umm...could I see a Mrs. Miller please?" I asked the lady who was sitting at the desk in front of me.

"Are you her daughter?" She asked politely.

"Yes, I am" I answered quickly.

"Room 419 and only one at a time." She replied.

"Thank you" I said and ran off in the direction of her room.

When I saw her number on the door I stopped, took a deep breath, and let myself in. What I saw in that hospital bed broke my heart.

There later my mom, though hardly recognizable now. She had an oxygen mask on her face. A huge gash was in her for head, which they wrapped in a bandage. Her face was battered and bruised. Her arm was in a sling and the rest of her body was bruised badly.

I picked up the clipboard sitting beside her bed. It listed a few of her injuries. Several broken ribs, bleeding in the brain, ect. On the very bottom of the page it was written in bold red lettering: IN CRITICAL STATE.

I turned to my mother and sat omdown on the chair next to her bed.

"Mom, I love you so much." I began as I started crying again. "I don't know what I would do without you. You have to get better. Please?"

Just then, her heart stopped....
