Usagi thirty four

>>>>CHAPTER 34<<<<

>>>>Oh Shit<<<<

"That's a nasty cut." A medic said. "We'll need to disinfect it and stitch it up... And we'll need to wrap up her wrist again after some healing. It might take a while."

"Alright." Kakashi said with a small sigh. "Usagi, are you alright on your own?"

Usagi nodded.

Before leaving, Kakashi turned to the medic. “Thank you."

"No problem." Once he was gone, the healing started.

After a few minutes of healing, and closing the wound as best they could, the medic stitched up the worst of the cut and applied disinfectant before bandaging it up again.

The wrist was next. After further healing, her wrist was bandaged tightly.

"That's it." The medic said.

Usagi nodded in thanks. Though cleaning the cut stung like a bitch, she was feeling better now.

"Now, I think you should get some rest. You have a slight fever..."

Usagi shook her head. [I want to watch the other matches. But thank you for your concern.]

"Are you good to walk back by yourself?"

Usagi nodded and left the room, showing the medic a small smile to show her appreciation.

As she made her way back to the main arena, she noticed a certain pink haired teammate was fighting against a certain blonde haired ninja.

'Ino vs Sakura... Quite the fight.' Usagi thought.

The first thing she saw as she looked down to their fight was both girls punching each other right in the jaw.

... Then, both girls passed out. Usagi missed the whole fight. Damn.

"Neither candidate is able to continue. As a result of simultaneous knockouts... The fourth preliminary round is a draw! Neither applicant will move on to the third exam." Hayate announced.

... Kay.

So, Kakashi and Asuma brought both girls up to the viewing area. "Neither one is hurt badly enough to need treatment from the medical corps..." Asuma said. "They should both regain consciousness within the next half hour... But, I'm impressed with both of them."

"Yeah..." Kakashi smiled.

-Tenten vs Temari-

Usagi watched on as Tenten began fighting the Suna nin.

Unluckily for Tenten, Temari was a wind style user... So, in the end, none of Tenten’s weapons hit Temari at all.

'I really want a giant fan.' Usagi thought, looking at her own fan, which was tiny compared to Temari’s.

"The winner of the fifth match... Is Temari!" Hayate announced.

It was then Temari decided to fling Tenten across the arena.

Lee, being the fast little bowl haired ninja he is, caught her before she hit the ground.

After securing Tenten’s safety, Lee charged at the sand nin.

Guy ended up jumping in and said something which probably wasn't very wise of him, because when is Guy ever wise? (He's probably the wisest character actually behind those bushy brows. THE POWER OF YOUTH!!)

"I'd like to offer a word of advice." Guy spoke to the sand team. "Be prepared. You have no idea how strong this boy really is."

Well. Now Lee has a super powerful ninja wanting to fight him. Great.

'Hey, Usagi!' Ringo barked. 'Can I go play with that puppy over there?! Pretty please?!'

Usagi noticed Akamaru was also glancing at Ringo, and barking at Kiba.

'... Go.' Usagi sighed, putting Ringo down on the floor.

As Ringo and Akamaru started having doggy conversations together, Usagi and Kiba glanced at each other. They had both been ditched.

Anyway... The battles continued on.

-Shikamaru Nara vs Kin Tsuchi-

Shikamaru, being the lazy person he is, ended the battle quickly by slamming Kin into a nearby wall and giving her a concussion.

"The winner is Shikamaru Nara!" Hayate announced as medics carried Kin away.

[Good job.] Usagi smiled.

"... That was troublesome..." He sighed.

-Naruto Uzumaki vs Kiba Inuzuka-

Ringo scurried back to Usagi as the battle started.

'I made a friend!' She barked. 'He likes to eat apples!'

'... Is that the kind of things puppies talk about?' Usagi wondered.

'Yep!' Usagi barked, surprising Usagi. Sometimes, she forgot Ringo could read her mind when they were together.

So, Naruto and Kiba began their fight after exchanging a few words beforehand.

Kiba made the first move, sending Naruto flying back.

"Don't underestimate me!" Naruto growled, looking badass.

Using the transformation jutsu, Naruto tricked Kiba, confusing him as to which Akamaru was the real Akamaru.

When Kiba let his guard down, Naruto...

... Farted. He farted. Yep. That happened.

With Kiba gagging on the smell, Naruto saw his chance.

He created a bunch of shadow clones, and with each kick shouted. "Na!" Kick! "Ru!" Kick! "To!" Kick! "Uzumaki barrage!!"

Kiba was finished.

"And the winner is Naruto Uzumaki!" Hayate announced.

A cheerful Naruto received an ointment from Hinata before making his way back to team seven.

The next match was then announced, and one thought travelled through Usagi’s mind.

'Oh shit.'

-Hinata Hyuga vs Neji Hyuga-

Let's just hope Neji doesn't kill her.

"She's his sister?" Naruto questioned, noticing the similarity in their surname.

"Both are members of the same clan." Kakashi explained. "The Hyuga clan... But they're not brother and sister."

Sakura looked at her Sensei. "Then how are they related?"

"Well... It's complicated. I guess you could say they're related in the same way a tree is related to the trunk." Kakashi explained, using a rather odd method.

Naruto did not understand the explanation. "Branch and trunk?"

After explaining how Neji was from the branch family, and Hinata was from the main family, it was made clear that they were not on the best of terms.

[I pray for her life.] Usagi showed Lee her note.

"As do I." He nodded. Neither of them were joking. They were genuinely praying that Hinata would be ok.

Hayate then announced that the match had begun, but Neji spoke up.

"Before we begin... There's something I have to point out, Lady Hinata. You're not cut out to be a shinobi. Withdraw from the match!" His words were sharp. "You're all sweetness and light. A peacemaker, not a troublemaker. You're easily led, not a leader.

"You have no self-confidence... The only reason you entered the exam is because you couldn't bear to let your team down, isn't it? You're participation had been reluctant from the start, hasn't it?"

"N-No... You're wrong." Hinata stuttered. "I... I really... Wanted to change that about myself... So, I entered the exam on my own choice..."

"Lady Hinata, you're just the sheltered baby of the main branch." Neji said bluntly.

"... What?"

"A leopard can’t change its spots. A failure always fails. And a weak personality won't ever become strong."

'And a curse will always be a curse.' Usagi thought to herself. She and Neji really were alike. Both suffered from an unchangeable curse... A heavy burden. It was one of the reasons why they got along so well. They could easily relate to each other.

Neji continued to speak to Hinata coldly. "It doesn't matter who you are. Were all judged on the basis of our looks, our intelligence, our talent, or our personalities, just as we judge others in return. It's because of the unchanging nature of humankind that differences are born. It's discrimination, but we have no choice but to live within the boundaries set for us by the judgement of others. It's unchangeable.

"... It's as unchangeable as the fact that I'm of the cadet branch of the family, and that you're of the main branch. I've seen through many things with my byakugan, and so I know... The courage you're displaying is just a bluff! In the truest, deepest part of your heart, you're desperate to run away."

"N-No... I-I really want to..." Hinata stuttered.

"My eyes cannot be deceived." Neji spoke coldly, glaring at Hinata as she trembled. He didn’t even give her a chance to speak. "Just now, to avoid my stare... You averted your eyes, glancing towards the upper left. It signalled your recall on a past experience... One that brought you pain.

"When you subsequently glanced to the lower right, it indicated that you were envisioning physical and mental agony. In other words, you recalled your own previous experiences, and based upon those memories, you imagined the outcome of this match.

"You foresaw... Your own defeat."

Hinata trembled further, bringing her arms in front of her body.

Neji continued to push her. To try and break her. "Even now, as you bring your arms in front of your body as if to shield yourself... Your body is signalling that desire to raise a wall between us... To create distance from me.

"You implore me to come no further, to peer no more deeply into the innermost secrets of your heart... Because everything I have said so far has been right on target!

"In addition, the way you're touching your lip... It's a defensive reflex. An attempt to ease your anxieties and doubts. It's completely clear, whether you admit it or not.

"You are completely aware... That you can never change yourself."

A tear rolled down Hinata’s cheek, and as she was going to give up, a voice echoed through the arena.

"YES SHE CAN!!" Naruto screamed, grabbing onto the railing in front of him, anger rising in his voice. "You can't just decide things like that about other people you idiot! Show him, Hinata! Beat him up!!"

"Naruto..." Hinata looked up at the boy she has admired and looked up to. He was cheering for her... No way could she just give up.

"Come on Hinata!" Naruto continued to support the girl. "At least talk back to him! Just hearing him has made me mad, and it's you who has to fight him!!"

The look in Hinata’s eyes changed. She was determined to win.

Neji noticed the change in her eyes. "So you're not going to withdraw? Then I won't be responsible for what happens here."

Activating her byakugan, Hinata stood in a fighting stance. "I... I don't want to run anymore! Neji... Let's fight."
