Not sober enough

Harry's getting ready to party with his friends.

"You sure don't wanna come?" He asks Louis, who's laid on their king sized bed with closed eyes, just vibing to the song that's currently playing.

"Yeah, I just want to have a lazy night." Louis smiles and opens his eyes as Harry takes his hand on his owns and leads it to his lips, kissing softly. "You sure don't wanna stay?" Louis asks.

"The boys have been planning this for too long now for me to cancel at the last minute." Harry gives Louis an apologetically smile.

"It's fine, love, I'm only giving you the option, just in case." Louis closes his eyes again and turns to lay on his tummy.

"Just in case what?" Harry rises his brows and giggles.

"Just in case you think I'm trying to get rid of you for not going nor inviting you to stay." Louis says, half his face muffed in the pillow.

"I really have the best boyfriend ever, don't I? Always so thoughtful." Harry says with a smile, buttoning his shirt up to just below his chest.

"You do, indeed."

"So...? What do you think?" Harry opens his arms and spin slowly so Louis can have a full view of his outfit.

Louis raises his upper body and rests his forearm on the bed for support, laying on his side to proper check on Harry. "Jesus Christ, if beauty was a crime, you would be sentenced to life imprisonment." He says, running his eyes all over Harry.

"You're so cheesy." Harry scrunchies his nose and laughs.

"Oh, shut it, you love me."

"For some unknown reason, I do." Harry rolls his eyes playfully. "Ok, I gotta go, it's getting late. Do you want me to bring you something on my way back?" He asks, looking around to make sure he's not forgetting anything.

"No, I just want a kiss before you leave." Louis plops back on the bed and stick his arms out to Harry like a child asking for attention.

"That's something you don't have to ask for." Harry goes over, he takes Louis' arms and puts them behind his own neck, leaning closer to finally kiss him, it lasts for a few seconds before Louis pulls Harry for a hug.

"I already miss you." Harry whispers.

"I don't." Louis whispers back, making Harry laugh before giving him a peck and running to the door.

"Bye, honey, love you!" Harry yells so he can be heard from the bedroom, where Louis' at.

"I love you too, take care!" He hears the door closing.

Harry left.

Louis, who's now alone and bored, goes straight to the kitchen to find some snacks to the Disney films marathon he's about to do.

He balances everything on his arms, not thinking much through it while he picks every rubbish food he can possibly find and walks back to throw it all over the bed.

He lays down, watching one movie after another with Clifford and different types of sweets surrounding him for a couple of hours while he waits for Harry to come back so he can sleep peacefully, call him a dad but he can't shut his eyes before making sure Harry's safe and sound.

It's past 2 AM when he hears the door open followed by a slow and clearly tipsy voice. "Love of my life, I'm home!"

Louis melts at the nickname and looks at the bedroom door, waiting for Harry to show up. Harry pops his head on the frame and smiles before bringing his body along, he goes up to Louis, lays by his side and blinks tiredly a few times, trying to keep his eyes open to appreciate Louis' features for a bit longer before, perhaps, falling asleep.

"I love you so much I could cry right now" Harry says and his eyes actually water, not sure whether it's from adoration or sleepiness, maybe both. "Marry me." Louis' belly flutters.

"Try that again when you're sober enough to know what you're talking about." He says, smiling with a hint of frustration for not knowing if Harry means that or if it's the alcohol speaking for him.

"Drunk words are sober thoughts, is that not what they say?" Harry runs his hands over Louis' hair, curling their legs together.

"You probably won't even remember that when you wake up, love." Louis says almost in a whisper while he looks deep inside Harry's eyes. "You should shower and change into clean clothes before falling asleep, you seem tired."

"You shouldn't mind answering honestly, then. If you're so convinced I won't remember this later, it won't be a problem for you to say 'no' without guilt now... if that's what you'd like." Harry says, ignoring Louis' last suggestion, he bites down his lip and closes his eyes when he feels the tears coming by even considering Louis saying 'no'. He blames the alcohol for this excess of sensitivity.

Louis frowns a bit, feeling almost offended by that, he's never felt so sure about anything like he feels about Harry, about them.

"Sun." Louis says gently, Harry hums in response. "Look at me."

Harry swallows dryly before he opens his wet eyes, their colour seems even greener by the reflect of the moonlight coming through the window straight onto his non fallen tears.

"I love you, Harry. I do think you're asking me this right now because you're out of you're senses, but-"

"Louis, that's not-" Harry stops at the unexpected and sudden feeling of Louis' gentle lips against his, leaning more into the kiss when he feels Louis trying to break it, not wanting this to end so soon, neither sure if he wants this conversation to keep going right now.

"Please, let me finish." Louis whispers with his lips still slightly brushing against Harry's, before he leans back just enough for them to lock gazes comfortably. "I do think you're asking this impulsively, but I'm not saying I doubt your feelings, I believe you. I just want to make sure this is gonna be something that both of us is gonna remember when the sun rise... you know?"

Harry nods, not knowing exactly how to proceed from that, tears finally leave his eyes, his brain is having such a hard time trying to make sense of it all. He tells himself mentally he'll never drink again.

"Why you're crying, love?" Louis asks gently, wiping the falling tears off his cheeks and replacing it with a kiss.

"Is this..." Harry hesitates before finishing the sentence. "Are you trying to get some time to find an easy way to say 'no'?"

And at that, Louis can't help but to laugh a little, incredulous.

"Is that seriously what you're worrying so much about? Me saying no?" He scans Harry's face, looking for some sort of confirmation of this being a joke, he frowns a little when he doesn't find any, smile never leaving his face. "Harry..." His gaze start moving swiftly from one eye to another onto Harry's face, not knowing how to express the million thoughts racing inside his mind at the moment. "I love you way more than I thought myself ever being able to love anyone, of course I'll marry you, you dumbass." Louis pulls him for a tight hug, caressing his hair as he leaves a small kiss on his forehead, hoping this is enough to convince Harry of the promises he didn't get to voice. "But if you do remember this when you wake up, know that this doesn't count as an official proposal."

Harry giggles into the hug, relieved, taking every promise and wordlessly promising back.

Louis feels Harry's body getting more heavy and his breath more steady as he lets out a way-too-low and slurred "I love you too, Lou." Not being able to keep himself awake for another second, reminding Louis of his own exhaustion.

And just like that, they momentarily forget about everything else and fall asleep, wrapped in each others' arms, wrapped in non spoken promises and with a certain of a future together, a beautiful and not possibly long enough one.
