Downhill, flickering flames made the silhouettes round the bonfire glow. Laughter was to be heard, the voices of the earth's mightiest heroes overlapping and barely becoming more clear as her footsteps came closer.
Above, the sky had been covered by dozens of stars, dusting it like paint speckles. A gentle yet noticeable cool breeze nudged her body to the bonfire set near the woods surrounding the compound.
As she settled herself down on a wooden bench, the bewitching joy emanating from the ambience seemed to fully fill up her senses as she inhaled and let her eyelids rest for a second.
"You want a drink?"
It was Natasha who interrupted her thoughts, nudging a glass into [Name]'s direction who thankfully took it, yet placed it aside. In the distance, two silhouettes neared, both illuminated by the moonlight shining from above.
Clint, whose back had faced the direction of the compound, twisted around to yell at the approaching men, yet in a friendly tone.
"See who has finally made up their minds to get their asses down here. Took you long enough, didn't it, your majesty?" he teased, earning snickering from his teammates. Tony, however, was the only one still cackling as Thor and his brother settled down around the flames.
Thor rolled his eyes. "Shut up", he grinned as Loki silently joined [Name] on the bench, her greeting him with a pure smile that made his heart flutter.
"Hey", she whispered so he was the only one to hear.
"Hey", he muttered after a few seconds, allowing a hint of a smile to be visible on his lips.
Time seemed to stop for a moment before Tony clapped his hands twice in order to get everyone's attention, yet not onto himself, very unlike him, but onto Bruce and Natasha.
Apparently, Bruce had brought a guitar to the bonfire which he now pulled onto his lap, adjusting it a bit, then sending a nod into a smiling Natasha's direction who then started to sing.
Eyes brightening up with delight, [Name] threw a glance at the asgardian prince next to her who had a rather puzzled expression on his face.
"Is that some sort of midgardian tradition or...?" he whispered, bending down to her ear so she was the only person who heard. His breathing at her ear was sending shivers down her spine, causing her cheeks to heat up slightly as she answered with a low voice.
"I ain't so sure, yet it's nice, don't you think?"
Loki's eyes investigated her face, being able to perceive delight yet a hint of confusion because of his question. His glance dwelled on her lips for a few seconds before detaching it again, frowning.
"It's quite... pleasant. Lovely."
A hint of sarcasm was drenching his words, yet the corner of his lips twitched upwards visibly.
"Admit it, you don't think of it that bad", [Name] teased him with a grin, nudging his side and causing his cool expression to crumble a bit more.
"As I said, it's lovely", Loki whispered, yet now the sarcasm dripping from his prior words had dissolved into nothing but pure honesty, causing her heart to flutter as she realised. His eyes were gleaming in the dim, flickering light emanating from the bonfire and she found herself getting lost in the undefinable colours as Natasha finished her first song.
The earth's mightiest heroes clapped their hands in awe, Tony couldn't deny himself a loud "Encore!" as he did so. Natasha shot a questioning yet encouraging glance at Bruce, who nodded in response and adjusted his guitar.
"Alright", Natasha said, then turning to face [Name] and the god sitting beside her with a soft grin on her lips. "But only if our lovebirds here will stay quiet for a minute."
Loki instantly parted his lips to protest, stiffening in his current position, yet Natasha shushed him, causing a big grin to spread over his brother's face.
"Nuh-uh, Loki, you're caught in the act."
The raven-haired god scoffed nearly inaudibly, rolling his eyes. Oh, how he hated being caught when he'd allow himself to let his cold facade fall for a second. Which hadn't happened often thus far, furthermore he'd rarely been caught. And yet he knew he despised it.
Before he got lost in his thoughts too much, slightly cold yet soft fingers intertwined with his own under the blanket, causing him to lift his glance, his eyes now meeting [Name]'s.
A smile lingered on her face before she turned to face a now humming Natasha once again, and Loki couldn't help but brush his negative thoughts away for now to enjoy her close company this evening.
