If I had to pick two things that I could live without, it would be spicy food and girls who are too-damn-girly.

When I was 12, I went on a vacation with my family to go to Brazil. I decided to order a meal that would then set my mouth on fire. It scarred me for life, so I made a vow to myself that I would never put hot food in my mouth again.

As for the too-damn-girly-girls, they just annoy me. I think it has to do something with my older sister, but I'm not one hundred percent positive. If you wear some makeup and a pink shirt or something like that, then that's A-Okay. However, if you consistently wear pink frilly dresses and have a horrendous makeup job, and on top of all that you are rude, then I really don't like you. Well, if you're just rude in general, then I don't like you, but I think that you get my point.

"Stella, dinner's ready! Please come down and set the table!" My father's voice travels from the kitchen, up the stairs and into my room.

I put my laptop down after logging out of my Tumblr account and headed down to my kitchen.

I'm still not used to not seeing my mom in the kitchen after she left. Originally, it was my older brother and sister, Aurnia and Jared, my dad, my mom, and I. But one night, my parents got into an argument, which led to my mother making the life-changing decision to go out to a bar, get drunk, hook up with a random man whore, and come back home with a bad hangover. She left us, divorcing my dad in the process. I was 14 at the time. It only seems like yesterday, even though 5 years have gone by without seeing the woman who brought me into this world.

Anyway, as I headed downstairs, I heard my dad on the phone, deep in his conversation. He sounded apprehensive.

"Yes, Lynn, I told you this before . . . Get rid of all of it, I don't want to be bothered with any of that shit . . . okay, good. Thanks, bye."

He sighed as he sat down in a chair at the kitchen table. He was in his usual clothes: a t-shirt (today it was green), blue jeans, and sneakers. I think that he was talking to his sister, Lynn. While he was going through the divorce, she helped out since she was an attorney at the local courthouse. That was when we became closer.

"What was that about?" I asked.

"Nothing. She just called to confirm some things about paperwork."

"Oh, okay." I began to set up the table as he continued the conversation.

"I do have to leave tomorrow morning for a delivery in Oregon. I should be back in about two weeks." He said.

He was a truck driver for a living. That meant that I was alone most of the time, with my siblings being away at college. I groaned. I hated being alone since I didn't have many friends. Not only that, but I hardly got to see my dad.

"Hey," he said. "I'll be back before you know it. Let's eat, I'm starving!" He said with enthusiasm.

I smiled because I saw that he made my favorite meal: stuffed shells served with broccoli. And for dessert *drum roll* homemade apple pie. It reminded me of when I was a kid and my family would eat it on picnics. We were the all-American family, until-

"So," my dad started, raising a finger to point to me while we sat down. "Don't do anything crazy. If you do, then . . ." I waited for him to finish his sentence.

"Then what?" I asked. He always did this, starting sentences and never finishing them.

"I don't know. But if someone tries to hurt you, you always have the pistol in the cabinet." Why did he always remind me?

"Because I worry about you, Stella. You're my youngest, and you're going to be alone. I don't want you getting hurt." At first I was confused, but then I realized that I had put my thoughts into words.

"I know, Dad. I'll be careful." I gave him a reassuring smile.

After that, we ate our meal in silence. As usual, it was delicious. By this time, it was late. My friends were coming over tomorrow and we were going to go out for the night.

"I'll call you when I make my stop in Kansas, which should be around noon, okay?"

"Okay. I'm going to bed now. 'Night, love you." I said, giving him a hug.

"Love you too, Stella." He smiled before I went upstairs to get ready for bed.

But he never called the next day.
