Nathan’s POV

The next morning, I wake up to the sound of Renee moaning. “Get up, Nathan. This isn’t even your bed” she says, whilst shaking me to wake me up. My eyes flicker open and I notice Renee standing over my, and Lucy is standing next to her looking over me. I forgot I slept in Lucy’s room last night. I suppose that’s what happens when your relationship is bad though.

“Alright then, calm down” I say, as I rub my eyes and get up off of the bed. I wonder out of the room, without another word and I head into my own room to get changed.

“I’m taking Lucy in your car this morning. Mine is being repaired” she tells me, as she makes her way down the stairs. She doesn’t even give me a choice. That’s my car and she acts like she can just take it when she pleases. I get dressed, before going down stairs to get something to eat. By this time Renee and Lucy have already left, my wonderful family, eh?

I finally finish my breakfast, when Renee arrives home and she’s not happy. Not that she ever is. “Nathan!” she yells, as she slams the front door shut and then walks into the living room, where I’m eating and watching TV.

“Yes darling?” I say, sarcastically.

“Don’t give me that bullshit. Where did you go yesterday?” she asks me and I can tell she’s trying to catch me out with something.

“I went to take Siva home. You know that” I tell her.

“After” she shouts, as she stands in front of me.

“Home?”

“Don’t lie to me, Nathan. I know you went to Jay’s!” she says.

“So? Am I not allowed to see my friend now and besides, I had to take Siva there. He didn’t want to go home, so he’s staying there” I tell her, but she doesn’t look impressed.

“No, I’ve seen your sat nav and I know you’re lying. You went to Siva’s and then to Jay’s. What was you doing there?” she asks me.

“I just told you. I went to take Siva there” I explain, but when Renee has her mind set on something, there’s no getting around it.

“You went to see Rheanna didn’t you? I know she’s staying there” she shouts, as her eyes fill up with tears. I stand up to comfort her, but she doesn’t want to know. As I put my arm around her, she pushes me away. “Why are you always doing this to me? I thought you’d learned your lesson the last time you cheated on me” she yells at me.

“I’m not cheating on you. I love you Renee” I say, but still, it doesn’t seem to be getting through to her.

“You went to see Rheanna” she screams.

“No I didn’t” I argue.

“Get out” she says, as she points at the door.

“What? Are you kidding me? This is my house” I tell her.

“Fine, I’ll leave shall I?” she shouts.

“Well if that’s what you want, then go” I tell her, trying not to raise my voice at her.

“Fine but you’ll never see me again and I’m taking Lucy with me, but if you leave now, then that’s it. I won’t take her away from you” she tells me and I don’t really have a choice but to go. I can’t let her take my child away. She means more to me than anything else in this world and the thought of never seeing her again makes me feel sick.

“Fine I’ll go, but tell me one thing first. Are we over?” I ask her, as I feel my heart breaking in my chest. I could stay and argue with her, begging her not to break up with me, but if I did that, I would only push her further away.

“Yes!” she screams at me.

“Why?” I ask, as I look down at the floor. I love Renee more than I’ve ever loved anyone. Sure I’ve made mistakes in the past, but I vowed to never hurt her again and if staying here is going to hurt her, then I have to go.

“Because I can’t stay in a relationship with someone I can’t trust. Now just leave, Nathan” she tells me.

“Ok” I sigh, as I walk off towards the door. I might be leaving, but if she thinks I’m giving up on us, she’s wrong. I will never give up on us. I will fight until my last breath to make her trust me again. Whatever it takes, I will do it.

I get in my car and as I sit in the driver’s seat, I start to think about where I’m going to go. I can’t exactly go to Jay’s, not after the argument me and Renee just had. She will never trust me if she finds out I’m staying with the one person she hates and I don’t blame her. She blames Rheanna for ruining her life, but I know it was half my fault too. I just have to make her see that I’m not that person anymore and I won’t fall for Rheanna’s little tricks again.

I suppose I could go and stay with Tom, after all, he’s in the same position as me. We’re both trying to win our girlfriends back. That’s it. I’ll stay with Tom.

I drive over to Tom’s house and when I get there, I park my car on the front and then make my way up to the house. I knock on the door, but he doesn’t answer. I knock around ten times, but still nothing. He’s out again? I walk over to the window and knock on it a few times and at that moment I notice something, something scarily familiar. The bowl of cereal is still on the table and so is everything else that was there yesterday. I know he was upset, but what if he’s done something stupid. What if he’s taken his depression to the next level and decided that life is too much for him. Maybe I should go to the police, then they can find out where he is. They might put him on the missing persons list. That way I won’t have to break into his house to see whether he is there or not. Because if I did that then it would be a bit awkward if he wasn’t there.

I get back in my car and make my way to the police station. When I get there, I feel a little bit nervous. There are teenagers hanging around outside, like it’s some kind of youth club. They scowl at me as I walk towards the entrance.

“What you looking at?” one of them scowls as he throws his fag butt on the floor and walks over to me.

“Piss off” I say, as I scowl back and walk through the main doors. As soon as I get into the building, I notice other youths sitting in the reception. They are obviously waiting for their friend or something. I walk over to the main desk where a middle aged woman just looks up at me, whilst chewing on some gum.

“How can I help you?” she asks and she doesn’t sound like she cares to much.

“I think my friend has gone missing. He’s been going through a hard time lately and I don’t think he’s been home for a couple of days” I tell her.

“There’s nothing I can do, unless he’s been gone for forty-eight hours. How old is he?” she asks me.

“He’s thirty” I tell her and she just rolls her eyes.

“Look, he’s a grown man. I’m sure he’ll be fine” she says, but then she sighs. “If you’re really that worried, then I can check to see if he’s been picked up anywhere. He could have been arrested for being drunk and disorderly or something” she says and I nod. “What’s his name?” she asks.

“Thomas Parker” I tell her and she starts to type something into her phone. It’s not long before she looks back up at me with a worried look on her face. “What is it?” I ask her.

“Your friend is in custardy. I’m afraid the reasons are confidential, but I can tell you that he will be standing trial in just two days. Hold on” she says, as she continues to type something into the computer. A couple of seconds later a piece of paper comes out of the printer. “Here, these are the details. If you want to show him your support, you can go to the trial and watch from the galleries. It’s open to the public” she tells me, as she hands me the sheet of paper. Why would Tom be up for a trail.

“Thanks” I mutter, as I make my way out of the building and towards my car. Once I get in, I just sit and stare at the piece of paper, trying to gather the information. I then see the one word, which I never would have expected, murder. Tom’s on trail for murder?
