Simon had been walking to and fro in front of the girls' restroom, looking up every time someone came out. He was earning himself weird glances but, he paid no heed to them. Once again, the door opened, and to his relief, it was finally Alex and Cerah.
Simon rushed to Alex and cupped her cheeks, checking her for any injuries. Cerah stood behind them with an amused look.
Now, that's a new side to the school's ever-so-cool heartthrob.
"Are you alright?" He asked Alex, concern lacing his voice.
"Yes," said Alex pulling away from him, avoiding eye contact.
"Alex, just look at me once, please. I just need to know you're alright," Simon said, bending down to meet her gaze.
Cerah leaned against a wall, her right leg up, enjoying the show.
"Simon Henry Roy." Alex gritted out in a tone that lowkey scared Cerah but, Simon remained unfazed.
"I told you to stay away from me. I don't need your pity, or your concern, or your help, Roy. Just. Stay. Away." With that, Alex stormed out, leaving Simon standing there with a blank expression.
After a few seconds, Cerah pushed herself away from the wall and walked to Simon. She contemplated if she should say something or not and figured she'd say something anyway since everyone that knew her already knew that her mouth was going to be the death of her.
"What was that about, Roy?"
Really Cerah? That's what you had to say?
Shut up.
"Why do you have to be so naive, Vienna?" Asked Simon, fisting his hands looking up at her.
"Huh?"
"Why do you have to be such an idiot? Why do you go about trusting all the wrong people? Why don't you listen to me or Ash when we tell you the truth? Why does your obliviousness have to affect the people who matter to me? Why am I punished for your idiocy?" Snapped Simon Roy, his voice rising with every word.
People had started to gather around and were staring at them.
Cerah's face had gone blank and Simon realized, a moment too late that he had fucked up. He braced himself for whatever Cerah was going to yell at him thinking he'd probably deserve all of it when Cerah said,
"I think you need some time to clear your head," and walked away.
*******
Cerah stopped in front of her room to gather herself. She hugged herself and leaned against the wall closing her eyes. Everything that Simon Roy yelled came back to her as if on replay. It wouldn't have affected her so much if it had been the first time she was hearing those words. But no, she always heard them, just from different people under different circumstances.
Always called an idiot for trusting everyone, always stupid for being too considerate and always fake for being too good. She was sick of it. Hated that she got hate for being herself. And coming from Simon Roy, it hurt a lot. Although her rival's best friend, she'd always considered Simon a friend, even though she hated Ashton. Simon had done nothing wrong besides being Ashton's friend. Although always bickering she'd thought Simon felt the same way. Apparently not.
Cerah took a deep breath, clearing her head and entered her room with a smile.
"Hey beautifuls."
Car put her phone away, turning her complete attention to Cerah.
"So? What did Roy want?"
"What am I missing?" Asked Chris settling herself beside Car, pulling Cerah with her.
Cerah told Chris about the phone call and narrated everything that happened.
"And then I asked him what that was about and he yelled some stupid shit at me so I walked outta there." She finished.
"So? Are you going to expel Helen?" Asked Chris tentatively.
"Of course," shrugged Cerah.
"I think you shouldn't do it, Cer. You know how it is at her home." Car said concerned.
"I don't care, should've thought about it before she decided to go about bullying people."
"I think you're being too much Cerah," Chris said scathingly.
Cerah shot out of the bed in anger.
"I am being too much now Chris? You don't think bullying a girl is too much but punishing the bully is?"
"But Helen is our friend Cerah! Who's Alen to us?!" Asked Car incredulously.
"No one that bullies is my friend Car. And Alex is human. Beisdes, am I not your freind Car? Why don't you have a problem with Helen using your friend's name for her shit?"
"Oh, so that's what this is about. It's always about you, isn't it? I can't date Ashton because you don't like him. Helen has to be expelled because she used your name. But you pretend as if it's all for us. As if you're concerned about me. As if you're concerned about Alex."
Stab. Stab. Stab. Every word pierced like a knife.
"Wow," Cerah said chuckling, "so that's what's going on in everybody's mind, isn't it? It's not just Simon."
"What are you talking about Cerah?" Asked Chris.
Cerah turned on her heel and stormed out of the room, all the restrained tears finding their way out.
At least now I know what everyone's thinking.
