His ruff hands grabbed me in places they shouldn’t be. His lips pressed roughly against mine as I struggled to get away. The pain of this was unreal. Drunken lust was all that filled his eyes. I yelled for help and his hand came up and smacked me across the face.

I woke up drenched in sweat with a scream caught in my throat. My sheets were twisted around me and I had thrown all the pillows off. I glanced at the clock and it said 1:43. I picked up my pillows, straightened the sheets, and relaxed back into my mattress.

The same memory had been haunting my slumber since the night it happened. I couldn’t get away from it, I saw him in alleys, in the movies, in my favorite restaurant, everywhere. The best my parents could do was to get a restraining order, there was no evidence of rape. The most expensive lawyers couldn’t even put his ass in prison. I was stuck not knowing if when I went out if I was safe or not.

None of my friends wanted to hang out with me, they said I was a downer. My teachers always told me I should lighten up, it’s not like I was going to turn the corner and somebody would attack me. No one knew except my family. So at the end of the semester, I switched schools. In practically 7 hours, I would be leaving for the boarding school that was three towns over, Lancaster Prep.

Apparently it was known for excellent grades, a great curriculum, and turning any misbehaved child into the most obedient young adult around. Yeah, that’s what I totally need. To be surrounded by perfect cheerful students that would think I was some kind of slut.

I slowly managed to fall back into a restless slumber until my alarm went off at 6:30.

I dragged myself out from the warm covers and trudged to the bathroom. I glanced in the mirror and saw long belly-button length hair that was a shiny dark brown. It stood stick straight even though I slept on it. Piercing blue eyes looked out at me from under long, thick lashes. I had full lips, high cheekbones, and a cute little nose. No wonder guys were constantly trying to get my attention. They always bored me, they all had the same idea.

I stepped into the shower and let the hot water scald my skin and let my thoughts drift from the dream last night, as it had been lingering there in the back of my mind. Instead I thought of what my new life was going to be like away from my family, which I had learned to rely on so much. I would be miserable and happy at the same time, but I always knew how to put on a show.

I hopped out of the shower and combed through my hair before I walked to my room. I threw on some flattering True Religion jeans and  my Angel Wings Victoria’s Secret hoodie one before I put on some pretty makeup to really make my eyes pop.

I checked to make sure that I had all the clothes I needed to last 3 months there before I came home for winter break. Yep, definitely enough clothes. But hey, you could never know what type of outfits you were going to need.

Slipping my feet into white vans, I lugged my bags downstairs and set them by the door so my dad could put them in the car. I grabbed some yogurt with berries and the fried egg that my mom had left on the counter for me. Hopefully they had healthy food there, I couldn’t stand eating greasy crap. As I munched on my breakfast, I texted my only friend remaining Jessica who accepted that I had problems to tell her I was about to leave. She replied instantly.

OMG I’m going to miss you sooo much. You have to Skype me like once a week and text me like all the time!
