25. Escalation in the finals

Both stood in the ring. Izuku tried to hide his excitement as best he could. Of course Akira would win! But how would she do that? After all, Bakugo wasn't an easy opponent. At the same time, she had to be careful not to be discovered as a spy.

"Begin!" Called Midnight.
But nothing happened. Neither Akira nor Katsuki moved. There was murmur in the stands.

Both looked like they were in trance, but this was interrupted by a growl from Akira's side. That was actually the starting signal.

Bakugo and Akira ran towards each other. Without using their quirks, they fought. Akira was excellent in a direct match. She was used to not needing a quirk to fight.

"What are the two of them doing?" Present Mic asked in surprise.

"I'm not sure. There is something personal between them. As soon as one uses their quirk, this fight continues on a different level. Teachers should get ready if one of the finalists loses control." While Izuku spoke, he wrote on a small piece of paper.

was written on the slip of paper, which he then handed to Aizawa without further ado. He passed the note on to Mic. Both looked at each other briefly, but then nodded in agreement.

In the direct fight Akira was very strong. Bakugo realized it too, because he kept his distance and caused a small explosion. Akira activated her ears and tail again.

So the fight with their quirks went on. Akira hardly dealt any hits. She received several critical punches. Izuku realized how angry that made her.

Bakugo laughed gleefully as he got another on her. Now Akira's patience broke.
Her ears changed, so did her tail. She fell on the ground. Her hands became paws, her hair her mane. Instead of Akira, there was now a fully grown lion. Not a lioness but an actually lion.

With an angry roar, Akira lunged at Bakugo. She cared little if Bakugo hit her with an explosion.

Akira got close to Bakugo and bit his arm. His painful scream made the audience freeze.

Akira shook Bakugo like the prey, he was for her. The blonde was thrown through the ring. When he tried to straighten up, he fell unconscious back to the ground.

"Akira Braun is the winner of the sports festival!" Called Present Mic.

Akira let out a roar. For everyone else it was a roar of victory, but Izuku could clearly hear the pain.

"Crap!" He called and ran out of the room. Mic nor Eraser could stop him.

Akira couldn't keep up the act in her full animal form, her father had said that.
Izuku ran through the school building, jumping down the stairs and pushing people out of his way.

As fast as he could, he ran to the scene.
Akira walked slowly towards Katsuki, she growled and showed her sharp teeth. As much as he wanted to see Katsuki dead, Izuku couldn't let that happen.

Before anything could escalate, Izuku stood in front of Bakugo and took a protective stance. Akira seemed out of balance. She struggled with herself.

"Akira! I'm here. Listen! Everything is fine! He didn't hurt me. Everything is fine shhhh ... come here." The greenhead talked to her.

The boy bent down and came a little towards her. The mood was tense.
When Akira got to him, the villain was gently touching her face. Then he started stroking her mane and finally petting her. Akira purred her head on the boy's legs as she sat down.

Akira slowly began to take on her human form again. She was bleeding from her arms and legs. There were tears in her eyes. When she tried to straighten up, she passed out. Lucky, Izuku was able to hold her close.

A couple of doctors came running and took Bakugo and Akira to Recovery Girl.

"As soon as both of them are able to, we will hold the award ceremony." Said Present Mic when Izuku was with them again.

A few small games were played again and the audience slowly began to forget what had happened to Akira.

Two hours passed and the award ceremony could begin.
Tokayami entered the square first and stood on his podium, third place.
Then Bakugo stepped into second place. He was supported and guided by Snipe. It seemed like he wasn't entirely sane. Recovery Girl had had to give him a good dose of sedatives.

Akira was the last to step onto the Podium. Her hair was loose again, her posture was very engaging and instead of her familiar ears, she had her lion ears and tail outside.

When everyone had taken their seats, someone came down from above.
"I AM HERE!" Shouted All Might and the audience cheered.

"Well done young Tokoyami Fumikage!" He said and gave him his medal. The raven boy bowed politely and thanked him.

"Very good performance by young Katsuki Bakugo!" Said All Might and gave the aggressive Pomereian his silver medal.
The ash-blonde boy just looked at him with blank eyes and nodded his head.

"Akira Braun! Excellent fight! You will be a great superhero. Congratulations on first place." He handed Akira her gold medal and bowed to her. Akira thanked her and also bowed.

"Please say a few more words." all might asked and handed her a microphone.

She accepted it and gave it a quick test.
"It's an honor for me. I have proven here and now that the time I have been training has not been wasted. I have often been told that a Neko like me could never become a hero. But I am not a Neko. I have just disguised myself as a Neko out of fear. I was afraid of becoming a victim of experiments. I was afraid of being seen only as an animal. But I'm no longer afraid. I hope I could prove myself. Thank you for your support." She spoke.

The audience cheered her. Fireworks went off soon Akira and Izuku would be celebrating too.
